Shakoyia and Marvin’s “Tinder” love story began in October 2020 at the plateau of the pandemic when virtual interactions became the norm, even for finding a forever person. Marvin swiped right and luckily Shakoyia did the same. It was truly love at first swipe! Quick on his feet, Marvin slid into her DM’s with the cheesiest line he knew, “OMG, you looking like a whole wife out here”, which became the first of many endless conversations. After a few weeks of admiring one another through countless GIFs, “good morning”, “good night”, “I can’t wait to see you” texts and just because FaceTime calls, Marvin made an immature move that nearly ran Shakoyia off. They went days without speaking and finally Marvin built up the courage to reach out to make amends and initiate their very first face-to-face meeting. Little did Marvin know, Shakoyia was already on a date interviewing another candidate (non-factor). However, Shakoyia’s curiosity took over and she agreed to meet with Marvin later that evening. When their eyes met, everything that happened before no longer held any value. He quickly embraced her and held her as if he never wanted to let go. That night was magical… truly love at first sight! The following day, they were finally able to enjoy their first official date, which included partaking in cocktails and engaging conversation about the possibilities of building a future together on a crisp, cool fall night under the moonlight and stars. A few date nights, road trips and unexpected life events later, Marvin took Shakoyia ring shopping just a few months after knowing her. The jeweler asked, “how long have you been together”, Marvin then responded “3 months”. The jeweler looked shocked. Marvin then stated before she could comment, “When you know, you know”, and proceeded to shop for a possible ring. Months later in August 2021, Marvin planned a surprise romantic brunch picnic and “photoshoot” at the Dallas Arboretum where he would propose to Shakoyia. Thankfully, she said YES to a lifetime of creating memories with Marvin as a host of family and friends were in attendance to witness the beautiful moment. While enduring and overcoming life’s challenging obstacles TOGETHER, the couple continues to build and enhance an already strong foundation to fulfil their legacy and God’s destiny for their lives. The couple can’t wait for this exciting new chapter to begin, learning more through each other, about each other, and growing with each other.
