The Day I Said "Yes!!!!"

07/21/2018

The day I said "Yes!!!" was PERFECT! My now fiancé (I love saying that "fiancé") drove me to the exact spot we went on our first date. To help you understand how special the proposal was, let me tell you about our first date. Kyle drove me to Treasure Cove, a gorgeous hike with an overlook of the ocean. As we watched the waves crash into the side of the cliffs around us he started to sing "Brave" by Kari Jobe. "As Your love, in wave after wave, crashed over me." I joined in. That moment, that beautiful moment, is when we fell in love. <3 On the day of the proposal he took me to that same beautiful hike with some of his friends. I soon found out he invited the friends to 1. Make me less suspicious and 2. Take pictures. We hiked to the same exact spot where we fell in love. Kyle sang "Brave" then got down on one knee, took out the ring, and asked me to marry him. "Shai, this is the same place we fell in love. I can't imagine living a day without you. Will you marry me?" I, of course, said "YES!!!" Saturday, July 21st, 2018 is a special day I will always remember.

My Ring

The gorgeous ring I now wear on my left hand has a special story. Not only is the ring dear to me because the love of my life gave it to me to signify our commitment to each other, but also because it is a family heirloom. The ring belonged to my great grandmother. (Fun fact: I have a picture of my great grandmother holding baby me, while she has the ring on her finger.) Made in the forties, this ring is around sixty years old. It is a 3/4 karat diamond with fourteen karat gold plating. The diamond is set in white gold while the band is yellow gold, a style popular in the forties. My Mom offered for each of her daughters to have an heirloom as their engagement ring when I was fourteen years old. I looked at them all. The instant I saw this one, I fell in love. I love the elegance and simplicity. I also LOVE that it glitters and shines more than most rings because of the cut of the diamond. So there you go. My ring is a piece of history, about to start a new journey, as Kyle and I become "man and wife."
