Probably our #1 recommendation if you're looking for something to do Saturday morning. This gigantic farmers' market is held every Saturday morning on the Capitol Square. It has endless samples of cheese (what's the record for the number of times "cheese" has been mentioned on a wedding website?), fresh fruits and vegetables, and Stella's Hot and Spicy Cheese Bread (which we highly recommend).
Yes, we're recommending an entire street. State Street gives you a great taste of Madison. It's perfect to explore at any time of day, whether you're looking for a coffee, a beer, a meal, or some shopping. Plus it leads straight to the capital, giving a really beautiful view.
If you love lions, tigers, and bears (or animals in general really), then swing over to the Henry Vilas Zoo. Aside from getting to see tons of cute and ferocious creatures, it's also FREE, which is our favorite kind of activity.
You're going to eat and drink mass quantities of calories at the wedding anyway, so why not start your day off with a delicious donut (or several)? Greenbush looks pretty modest on the outside, but their donuts are top notch. If you have a car, this is only a 3 minute drive from the hotel. If not, it's a 20 minute walk, which can make you feel better about what you're consuming. It's a win-win!
A, shall we say, "rustic" bar in downtown Madison. This comes highly recommended by Blake. It was a bar that we spent many nights in, much to Seton's chagrin. They do serve some pretty delicious Long Island iced teas in mason jars, though.
