Flight

By Plane

Flying is the quickest option. Bangor International Airport (BGR) – about a 1-hour drive to Bar Harbor Hancock County–Bar Harbor Airport (BHB) – about 20 minutes away (limited flights) Rental cars are recommended, as rideshares can be limited in the area.

A scenic road trip for those driving from New York or Connecticut. From NYC: approximately 7–8 hours From Connecticut: approximately 6–7 hours Plan for tolls, specifically New York & Massachusetts!

Suggested Driving Routes

Most Direct Route: I-95 North through Maine to Exit 182B, then follow Route 1A / Route 3 to Bar Harbor More Scenic Route: I-95 North → Route 1 along the Maine coast (adds time, but great views and charming towns)

Perfect for stretching your legs and grabbing a bite: Portsmouth, NH – charming downtown, coffee shops, and waterfront views Kittery, ME - some outlets, walkable stretch of road and some great seafood finds, a personal favorite stop of Sam's family! Kennebunkport, ME – great for lunch, shopping, or a quick walk Freeport, ME – home of L.L.Bean and plenty of dining options Bangor, ME – ideal last stop for gas, groceries, or snacks before heading to Bar Harbor; and you can find Stephen Kings Mansion here if you want to do a quick detour!

Amtrak Downeaster

Train travel is an option with a short drive at the end. Take Amtrak Downeaster to Bangor (From Bangor, rent a car or arrange a ride to Bar Harbor (about 1 hour))
