We will host a welcome dinner for all of our travelling guests and would love for you to join us on January 1, 2021, however as long as you can make the wedding, we are flexible.
The short answer is no. Bangkok has so many options for public and private transportation, however we do recommend you arrange airport transfers ahead of time, as many tourists will get stuck paying higher prices without a reservation. See our 'Getting There' tab for additional information.
We recommend booking flights approximately 6 months out, however google.com/flights and other travel websites allow you to set up price trackers to make sure you are getting the best price when booking.
You do not need a travel visa if you plan on staying in Thailand for less than 30 days on a valid passport from the United States. While you will probably be safe without any vaccinations when staying in the urban cities, we do recommend you get Tetnus, Hepatitis A, and Typhoid shots prior to your trip. Please see the CDC site below to take any additional precautions if you plan on going to rural areas in Southeast Asia. https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/thailand
We highly recommend buying bottled water and skipping the ice when order drinks from street vendors. While this is not the most eco-friendly advice, it may save you from spending a day or two in the bathroom.
We want everyone to enjoy their time in Thailand and want you all to be aware that as a foreigner you will automatically be a target for overcharging, pick-pocketing, and scams. When shopping in markets, be sure to bargain with the vendors to make sure you are paying the best prices for your souveniers. When walking or eating on the streets, using public transit systems or visiting common tourist sites be aware of your surroundings, as pick-pocketing is very common in crowded areas. Carry your wallet in your front pocket, place your hand on your purse when walking and place your valuables in your lap when eating on the street. As a general rule in avoiding scams, if something is too good to be true, it usually is.
Thailand has 3 seasons...Hot, Hotter, and Hottest. In January, the weather in Bangkok is usually around 85 to 90 degrees during the day and generally humid. Keep in mind all tourist sites require men and women to dress modestly, so we recommend packing a few layers to shed as the temperature increases throughout the day.
To get to any of the famous beaches in Thailand, flights are required. We recommend flying regional airlines, like Air Asia, out of Don Mueang Airport (DMK) to Phuket International Airport (HKT) for the best flight times and prices (this is also true if you are planning to travel to any other Thai cities, like Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai). Khao Lak is a less commercialized beach area approximately 90 miles north of Phuket, Thailand's most popular beach destination. We recommend booking private transportation ahead of time to pick you up from the airport (approximately $50 one way for a group of up to 4 people). If you are interested in going to the beach or traveling around Thailand, reach out to us so we can help you plan out your trip!
