Wedding Update

Getting Married in the Year of COVID-19

Due to the current travel restrictions for Thailand, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the wedding reception scheduled for January 2, 2021 in Bangkok. Hopefully one day travelling, dancing and hugging will be safe again and we can celebrate with our family and friends. Until then, we hope you all remain healthy and safe during this time. We will still get married this fall; however, that will be in a courthouse where we affirm we are not related to each other. Our honeymoon is still scheduled for November 2021, so hopefully this pandemic does not take that away from us too. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us or sent encouraging thoughts throughout the planning process. It truly means the world to us. Cheers to a small wedding and big marriage!

How We Met

When you know, you know...

We worked together for almost two years and became friends through many work hours, late nights and long walks to contractor parking in beautiful Anacostia, South East, DC. Francis must have inhaled too much of the DC sewage air, causing him to ask for an invite to Serena's birthday party. When Francis made it out to celebrate Serena's birthday, tequila took over and we spent the rest of the night dancing, bar hopping, getting made fun by our friends, and grabbing late night chinese food. Under the influence of the DC sewage air, or prehaps the tequila, Serena invited Francis out for her birthday brunch the next day. When he actually showed up and wasn't scared away by her friends or the amount of food consumed, we knew there was something there and we've spent almost everyday together since.

The Proposal

France? How Cliché

As many of you know, Francis has a passion and talent for photography; however, Serena claims the only thing he can't take a picture of is her. When planning our trip to France in May 2019, Francis decided on the perfect location in Lyon to stage a pretend photo session and pop the question. Francis hid the ring inside his desktop computer for 3 months because of Serena's investigative tendencies and to not give away his future proposal plans. During the first leg of the trip Francis made no sudden movements and didn't even lock the ring away in a safe so Serena would have no clue as to what his plans were for Lyon. On the first morning in Lyon (after 2 croissants of course!), Francis took Serena to a beautiful park with a flower garden backdrop. As he put the camera on the tripod and set the timer, he ran over to stand next to Serena in the photo. Instead of standing, he got on one knee!
