It was a cold January evening... 2015-House Party. They were playing flip cup. Sarah will say that Brandon voted her off, Brandon will deny it. They chatted, had some laughs, and that was the end of it...Or so they thought. 8 months later, they had their first date (TopGolf is a prime date spot). Sarah was oblivious and thought it was 2 friends hanging out (even though she thought Brandon was cute all those months ago). First date led to a second date, which lead to Brandon meeting a group of Sarah's close friends, her parents, her brothers, her cousin from overseas, and her best friend's parents at the same time, all within 3 months. Brandon liked them all way more than he liked Sarah, so he stuck around.
Well- we had a #SKWAD trip planned to Cancun for May 2020. I (Brandon) had everything planned- rose petals on the beach at sunset, "Will You Marry Me?" written in the sand, photographer on standby, and, of course, celebration champagne, because how could Sarah say no?! Then Covid happened. With no trip in sight and the world shut down, Plan A was out the window. Plan B- Find a winery that was actually open and see if a couple of us could have a little picnic and I would propose there...No wineries were letting people in. Plan C-Head to Burnside Farms (a local flower farm) walk amongst the tulips, pick some flowers, and propose there. Perfect setting, great photo ops, open space. Until they closed for the season 2 weeks early because of RAIN. Should I wait? Was this NOT meant to be?! It's too late to return the RING ;-) Plan D!! I set up a casual, inconspicuous Cancun themed Zoom call (with our travel buddies Lauren & Riley and Stef & Spencer). I decorated the living room and kitchen, ordered A LOT of tacos, and made some margaritas. Midway through dinner and virtual games, I offered to give the group a virtual tour of the decorations (They were in on it. I'm surprised they didn't explode from holding in their excitement!). I asked our friend Jose to take a pic of us in front of the backdrop and I pop the question! Yes, I had words planned...no, they did not flow out as planned. Yes, we both acted awkward and silly, which is on par for us--but I wouldn't have it any other way
