Jailin and Semiyah first met in 2011, and by the next year, at just 14 years old, they were officially “together.” It was young love in its purest form: sweet, a little dramatic, and full of the kind of butterflies and feelings that make you believe you’ve already found your person. Even though it didn’t last long, it was something they both remembered. As life moved forward, they went their separate ways after high school. In 2016, Semiyah headed to East Carolina University, while Jailin took a completely different path and enlisted in the Coast Guard. Their lives looked very different. College campuses and late-night study sessions on one side, and deployments and life at sea on the other, but somehow, they always stayed loosely connected over the years. In December 2021, everything changed. While on vacation in Jamaica, Semiyah reached out to Jailin through a then mutual friend. At the time, Jailin was deployed all the way in Bahrain. Despite the distance, the conversation picked up so naturally it felt like no time had passed. That spark they once had? Still there. Just a little more grown-up this time. So, they decided to give it another try (for real this time). For a while, love meant long distance. Semiyah was in Maryland working toward her Master’s degree at Howard University, while Jailin was stationed in New Jersey. They made it work. FaceTime calls, train rides, counting down the days, but it didn’t take long to realize they didn’t want to spend their lives miles apart.

Semiyah eventually made the move to New Jersey, and that’s when everything truly fell into place. Not long after, Jailin began planning something meaningful. Taking his time to design the perfect ring with a close friend in Bahrain, making sure it was something Semiyah would love forever. As Semiyah planned her 27th birthday trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico with their family and friends, she had no idea what Jailin had already set in motion. By then, the ring was ready, and he was just waiting for the right moment. On the afternoon of October 20, 2024, Semiyah thought they were heading to the beach for a birthday photoshoot. The air was warm, the sand soft beneath her feet, and the smell of salt filled the breeze. When they arrived, she was asked to close her eyes, still thinking it was all part of the plan. Instead, she was met with the voices of her family and friends, gathered there to celebrate her. It was the day before her birthday, and what she thought would be a simple photoshoot turned into the most unforgettable surprise. In that moment, surrounded by love, Jailin asked her to spend forever with him. Now, they're building a life together, traveling, enjoying the little things, and living their best lives with their pup, Jerzee. Wherever life takes them next, they're ready… together.
