The best is yet to come

Selena was working her normal 4-9pm shift at Pizza Hut in the small town of Elkin, North Carolina when she turned and made eye contact with Derek for the very first time. For a moment it seemed as if everything froze, because at that moment, she knew she had found the one she would love forever. For a week, she made sure that word got back to Derek that she was interested, despite this... he had yet to approach her. Impatiently, she skips up to him as he is preparing to take a delivery and asks him 3 questions. 1) What’s your name? 2) How old are you? 3) Do you have a girlfriend? Followed by “okay bye!” And skipping away. Turns out Derek was very much interested too. He went home and told his mom all about this adorable girl at work who liked him. October 21, 2014 Derek FINALLY texted Selena letting her know how he felt. On October 22, 2014 they began the first day of forever by sealing it with a very awkward first kiss behind their local Pizza Hut.

On the cool night of December 17, 2017... Derek, Selena, and their mothers were sitting around a dining room table when Derek began to reminisce on the time they had all spent together. He began thanking Selena’s mother for raising her to be the woman she is and for being so hard on him in the beginning. Not long after, he asked Jackie if it would be okay if he took her daughter’s hand in marriage. Jackie responded with no words, just a joyful gasp with her hands quickly covering her face. Derek took this as a yes, got up, and got down on one knee beside of Selena, who was also speechless. While it took her longer to answer than would be expected, she was finally able to say the word “yes”.
