Wedding Party

Filipino weddings feature primary and secondary sponsors who act as guides to the couple throughout their lives together. In addition, they feature the bridal party and a host of kiddies. Read all about the people we've asked to share in our special day!

Jasmin S. Dee

Primary Sponsor

Just as in baptism, when god-parents are chosen to act as role models for the newly baptized individual, Filipino tradition calls for principle sponsors to serve in this manner when a couple is to be married. As wedding sponsors, they commit themselves to be a source of encouragement and guidance throughout the lives of the married couple.

Geoff & Fiona Gaunay

Secondary Sponsors, Candle

The candle sponsors come forward during the ceremony and light the individual tapers of the Bride and Groom, after which the Bride and Groom light the Unity – or Marriage – Candle together.

Christian & Sandra Yuzon

Secondary Sponsors, Veil

The veil sponsors drape a ceremonial veil on the top of the bride’s head and onto the shoulder of the groom, which is a symbol of two people being clothed as one. This represents a wish for good health and protection during their married life. It also symbolizes the uniting of two families into one.

Donald James & Bridget Stewart

Secondary Sponsors, Cord

The cord sponsors loosely drape a silken cord sewn or fastened in the middle to create a “figure eight,” around the necks of the couple. The cord symbolizes the lifelong bond or ties between the bride and groom, and represents an everlasting promise of fidelity.

Rebecca Marshall

Maid of Honor

In addition to being the Maid of Honor Becky has her own Honors from the University of Delaware graduating Magna Cum Laude with an Honors Degree with majors in Political Science, Spanish and Women and Gender Studies and a Masters from Harvard University in education policy and management. Needless to say she is sharp if you enter a debate with her but a must to have on your Trivia Team! In addition to her amazing resume she is also incredibly thoughtful, funny, and silly. Before graduating from UD together, Becky and Erica often found themselves making late night snacks and created their hypothetical food truck called "The Procrastination Station".

James Walsh

Best Man

The best man may be bigger than the groom, but he'll never be badder! James used to follow Kevin around like a Padawan follows his Jedi Master. But one of Kevin's greatest joys has been watching his big little brother become his own man. Now, there's no Jedi Kevin would trust more to hold the rings on his wedding day. Assuming he didn't lose them...

Lauren Plunkett

Bridesmaid

Lauren is the little sister Erica would ask Santa for every year when she was a little girl. It's been so much fun getting to know Lauren since day one! Since starting her Occupational Therapy career, Lauren has some pretty funny stories about her day-to-day and the touching moments she has with her patients. Whether it's hiding in the bushes in disguise ready with her camera to capture the moment, or standing with her at the altar, Erica always feels better knowing Lauren has her back.

Christian Plunkett

Groomsman

Kevin wasn't sure what to make of the Hairless Wonder when his sister brought Christian home. But when the first thing out of his mouth was "I hear you like Irish history, did you know there was a Plunkett in the Easter Rising?" Kevin had a good feeling! And that good feeling was confirmed when CP followed it up with "I hear you like Game of Thrones, did you read the books?" Kevin can't wait for the big homie to crack open a crispy BL on the big day. Because it's gonna be hot, and the boys will be thirsty...

Marcy Matenkoski

Bridesmaid

In addition to being a jet setter, fashionista, and beauty product connoisseur she also loves food! Marcy is always down to try something new and always first with a new recommendation to make sure you are living your best life. While Erica misses when she and Marcy worked at the same office and have lunch together almost everyday or afternoon walks to take a break, Erica is so happy Marcy has made her move to NYC to live her dream.

Matthew Golias

Groomsman

Kevin still remembers the day he met Matt in Ms Harko's kindergarten class. The class clown was balancing on a chair on one foot and then preceded to fall off said chair. Ever since, Matt has always known just what to say to make Kevin laugh. He's a carefree warrior who will always fight for his friends, just like their mutual hero Son Goku. Kevin couldn't be happier to have Matt at his side at the altar, even if it means being on guard for a surprise Kamehameha Wave...

Rebecca Quagliariello

Bridesmaid

It's Becky's nature to always lend a helping hand. Thank goodness she's been a part of her life since 2005 because Erica has been so grateful to have Becky's helping hand with her! When they first met, Erica was lucky to be able to boil water but today they share their cooking and baking secrets. Becky was affectionately nicknamed "Mama Becky" for her kind nature and sound advise to just about every delima her friends would confide to her.

Ryan McSharry

Groomsman

Despite having been older, bigger, and stronger than Ryan for most of their childhood together, Kevin always felt his cousin outclassed him in baseball, basketball, you name it. Once he moved to Delaware and found Ryan's biceps to have doubled in size every time he came home, Kevin felt pretty sure he could add weightlifting to that list. Nevertheless, Kevin count himself lucky to have the gentle giant representing Clan Lynch in his wedding party. And he's glad to have his help throwing a party that even Jumpin' Joanie would call great craic...

Halley Pearlstein

Bridesmaid

Halley and Erica share lots of common interests. They've shared the stage, they've shared secrets, and they share a love for Jersey boys! In college they had a healthy balance of being side-by-side in fitness classes when their schedules would allow and side-by-side waiting for a slice of pizza after a late night. Erica is so glad Halley will be at her side on the big day to share in the festivities.

Kyle Christie

Groomsman

Whether it was the will of the Guardians of the Universe or the will of the UD roommate lottery, Kyle and Kevin found themselves sharing a tiny space in Russell D1. But they soon found it was a match made in heaven, because only Kyle could tolerate Kevin's snoring for four long years. Kyle is a man with the ability to overcome great fear, and there's no one better to have Kevin's back when the groom is sweating at the altar...

Laura Cohen

Bridesmaid

When Erica needed to find people to come to the UD Ballroom team Salsa dancing nights it sometimes felt like pulling teeth. But when she asked Laura to come to a lesson, Laura was up to learning how to dance! On those Monday nights they would forget the upcoming project deadlines and dance the night away. While their Monday nights are not quite like they were before, Erica and Laura find themselves dancing the night away during UD Alumni Weekends or meeting up when Erica is home in NYC.

Jetmir Vojnika

Groomsman

Kevin actually first met Jetmir (YET-MEER) at Jersey Boys State in high school. The stoic Albanian and the boisterous Irishman didn't get to know each other very well at the time, but just like their counselor promised, when they unexpectedly crossed paths again at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, they embraced each other as long-lost brothers. Now Doc Walshie and Doc Vodka are at it again, and it's time for the groom to meet his destiny. After all, destiny is all...
