Every Civilian Girl's Dream

First comes school, then comes marriage

Andrew and I met through a series of happy coincidences. We both attended college at Virginia Tech, but were in completely different circles. That changed when I studied abroad with a professor who asked me to be a teaching assistant for her class. The semester when I did that for her was the same semester of the Class of 2015 Ring Dance, a long-standing tradition at Virginia Tech where juniors receive their custom class rings. Junior students in the Corps of Cadets play a special part in this tradition, forming a sabre arch and creating the numerals of their class year on the dance floor. Every civilian girl dreams of attending Ring Dance with a cadet, so when several potential civilian dates turned me down, I decided to ask one of my new Corps friends from my teaching assistant class if he knew any cadets who needed a date. He told me his roommate, who was also his best friend, didn't have anyone to go with, and so Andrew and I met. After Ring Dance, he actually ended up telling me he didn't have time to date me - I thought he was just being nice because he wasn't interested, but he legitimately didn't have time - a heavy class schedule in his next semester would make things difficult. Finally, he decided to make the time, so he asked me to Military Ball in the spring semester of our senior year, which happened to fall on Valentine's Day. We've been together ever since!

For all the days along the way
