A Melsi or Melse is a traditional Eritrean/Ethiopian post-wedding celebration filled with music, dancing, and cultural traditions. It’s a joyful continuation of the wedding festivities, and we would love for you to experience it with us. In alignment with the traditions of Melsi, the women at the wedding greet the bride and groom with various assortments of Mes (wine) bottles, Himbasha (homemade flatbread), Corn, Mesob (handwoven baskets) and much more. These are considered to be gifts to the bride and groom on their wedding day. Because weddings are typically celebrated as a community, all of the women in the village and neighboring villages and cities will bring a gift and sing and dance with it to show what they have brought. Overall, Melse is a sequel to Day 1 of the wedding with more emphasis on the culture and unique wedding traditions. It is a great way to preserve our heritage!
Our celebration will begin with a cocktail hour featuring curated bites and drinks, followed by dinner, music, and plenty of dancing. Come ready to celebrate with us!
Yes, we will have an open bar for all of our guests to enjoy complimentary drinks throughout the event. Please drink responsibly.
We would truly love to celebrate with you at both events, but we understand that schedules and travel may not always allow it. You are welcome to attend whichever events you’re able to join, your presence at any part of our celebration means so much to us. Please make sure to RSVP accordingly.
Absolutely. We would be honored for you to embrace and celebrate Habesha culture by wearing traditional attire if you feel comfortable doing so, but there is no expectation. You are also welcome to wear the formal or traditional dress of your own culture. Otherwise, suits and cocktail dresses are perfectly appropriate for Sunday’s celebration.
