As many modern-day love stories begin, we swiped right on Hinge and had our first date in early October of 2018. Sean won Sandy over after the second date with a romantic stroll by the canal in Fremont. Meanwhile, Sean had placed a text message to his two best friends from college after date one saying "Bros I think she is the one... She is tall, funny and fluent in Spanish!" Not that these things were critical but given his height 6'3" and his fascination with Latin America... it was a pretty sweet coincidence!
We traveled to Cuernavaca, Mexico to spend New Year's with Sandy's family at the Ruiz family home. On New Year's Eve, Sean was acting strange, and Sandy wondered why he was getting ready for the evening's festivities 3 hours early. Sean left the room and texted Sandy to meet him on the roof. At that point, she was 99% sure Sean was about to propose. As soon as she got to the roof, there was Sean, standing in a heart-shaped grouping of luminarias with a vase of roses and rose petals strewn around. He got down on one knee and said something sweet, but Sandy was already crying and doesn't remember exactly what he said, but she said YES! Sandy's cousin, Paulina, was able to capture the moment with beautiful pictures at sunset. Then, we were able to ring in the new year with family and it was perfect!
