The Jud Wiebe Trail is a favorite short hike that can be accessed right from town. You will travel through groves of aspen trees, wide open meadows, and see panoramic views of Telluride all the way from Bridal Veil Falls to the Valley Floor. Sean and Megan have hiked this trail 5 times this year and find the views stunning. You get some exercise during this 3 mile loop while enjoying the scenic landscape.
Bear Creek Preserve Trail is one of Telluride's most popular trails. The beautiful and well-marked wooded trail ends in a magnificent set of waterfalls and an unbeatable view of the town of Telluride. It is a gradual incline and about 2 miles out to a view of the falls. Megan, Sean, Bubs and Donut have hiked the route and love the views of the falls and creek!
The Cornet Creek Trail is a short hike with a spectacular finish at the 80-foot Cornet Falls. The hike affords you beautiful views of the Telluride Ski Resort. You can walk out and back from the falls in about 45 minutes. This is a must do, quick adventure. Bubs and Donut love to scramble up and down the rocky path and jump into the freezing cold creek.
The San Miguel River Trail follows the San Miguel River through the length of the town of Telluride. This is the perfect strolling and jogging path with unbeatable views of the box canyon. The trail goes for a total of 4.5 miles and you can catch it from various locations throughout town. The address listed will put you on the trail near the gondola.
Imogene Pass trail goes 17.5 miles to the town of Ouray. The crazy trail runners use this as part of training runs for the Leadville 100, Hardrock 100 and all sorts of high elevation ultra races. Do not let this scare you off. You can go about 3.5 miles to some beautiful waterfalls and viewpoints of the box canyon. If you want to get some good exercise in, this is the hike for you!
Bridal Veil Falls is a 365-foot waterfall at the end of the box canyon overlooking Telluride. Hiking and off-road trails pass by the falls and it has a hydroelectric power plant at its top. In winter the frozen shape of the falls forms an imposing challenge to intrepid ice climbers.
Located on the back side of the Telluride Ski Resort and Palmyra Peak, Alta Lakes provides a magical alpine setting in both summer and winter. Enjoy fly fishing, camping, hiking, paddle boarding or just take an easy drive up to admire the beautiful, main lake and the ghost town! Sean and Megan have both paddle boarded here. Sean fell in and let's just say, the water is cold.
The gondola in Telluride is free. It is a great scenic ride to the top of the ski slopes with an opprotunity to get off and visit San Sophia lookout. You also can take it all the way to Mountain Village. Mountain Village is the resort town of Telluride ski area and has shops, restaurants and bars that are just a free gondola ride away.
This is a Guest family favorite. If you know the Guest family at all, you know that they love their pizza. Brown Dog is a very popular spot in town and sometimes is hard to get a seat at, but pickup and delivery is easy to come by. Sean and Megan love the Brooklyn Bridge Detroit style pizza.
The best spot in town for fresh salads and baked treats. The Butcher and The Baker has a great brunch too with plenty of seating outside in the back area. Megan's go to order is "3 Scoops" of whatever looks good in the salad case. Also, you can't go wrong with ordering their $20 bottle of Rose deal they offer during lunch.
Known affectionately by locals as 'The Buck', this has been a Guest family staple for 10+ years. Head here for decently priced beers ($2 PBR!), darts, and a rooftop terrace with sweeping views of the town. We'll be gathering here on Thursday before the wedding as well
If you are looking for a great yoga class, look no further! Mangala is situated right in town and has a variety of classes to meet your yoga needs. We love the instructor Jessica but every teacher is great. Make sure you reserve a spot ahead of time because the studio is small and very popular with locals and visitors.
From June 5th through October 9th, you can find the farmer's market on South Oak Street in downtown Telluride selling the best of Southwest Colorado from 10:30am to 4:00pm.
For the adventurous bikers, check out the Telluride mountain bike park and trails! We have not gone to the bike park and instead rented bikes in town to explore the river trail and ride to the brewery. We had a blast renting bikes and seeing Telluride this way. We are definitely excited to check out the bike park soon though!
