Siena has a beautiful medieval walled city centre - with cobbled streets and a unique fan-shaped central Piazza. This makes for the perfect spot to while away a morning or afternoon whilst in the region discovering the lovely independant shops and cafés this city has to offer. Please be careful not to drive into the walled city and to park outside using the metred parking - we learnt the hard way and are still waiting on the authorities to catch up with us!
Even if you take our recommendation and fly into Pisa, if you have the time then we really encourage a stop off in Florence. It's a city steeped in history with world-famous art virtually every corner you turn. This is a must on any trip to this part of Italy.
If only for the photo opportunity this makes for a great quick stop off - there is nearby parking clearly sign posted which is well catered to visitors. Despite being quite the tourist hot-spot, it's well worth a visit while it's still standing!
