Our Story

Elementary School: The Start

***

In 2005, Ashlee moved to Hanover, MD and started 2nd grade as the new girl. She met this boy on the school bus named Scott who only lived 3 minutes away. Ashlee quickly developed a crush on Scott, but he had no idea. Over the next few years they became friends. Riding the bus together everyday, accidentally matching on Halloween in 4th grade, and coincidentally in the same group for their big 5th grade final project.

Middle School

***

By the time middle school came around, Ashlee's crush on Scott was over. He was taking too long to figure it out! Though they were assigned to two different buses and no longer rode home together, they found themselves within the same social circle and remained friends. Scott was even invited to Ashlee's 13th birthday party at Shadowland for laser tag.

High School: Freshman Year

***

High school starts. They remained good friends through freshman year, at that point having watched each other go through several middle and high school "relationships." The summer that followed, Ashlee found herself starting to crush on Scott ... again. She made a promise to herself that she'd become Scott's absolute best friend and knew that in the process he'd fall in love with her.

Sophomore Year: Finally Dating

***

Sophomore year arrives. Scott was now on the football team and Ashlee was on the cheerleading team, which meant they began to spend even more time together, seeing each other during daily practices and at all of the games. Scott and Ashlee were so in sync that they were even injured at the same time. During a September game, Scott tore his left ACL, and the next day during a cheer stunt Ashlee sprained her right MCL. They could be seen walking around school together with matching knee braces. Over the next few months, Scott and Ashlee got closer and closer, until inevitably Scott developed feelings back. Scott took Ashlee out on a date to see a movie in late November. Two weeks later on December 5th, 2013 Scott met Ashlee at her locker and finally asked her to be his girlfriend. She said yes.

Got Through High School

***

Soon enough Scott took a leap and told Ashlee he loved her, and she admitted she felt the same way back. They got through the rest of high school as a couple: attending sports games, going to junior and senior prom together, getting on the "cutest couple" yearbook page senior year, and in 2016 graduating together. They were so confident in their relationship, that during their senior year they only bought one high school yearbook to share, since they figured they wouldn't need two in their eventual home together.

Survived College

***

College was the first time they didn't go to school together. Scott went to Howard Community College and Ashlee to the University of Maryland College Park, but Scott couldn't stay away and after 2 years transferred to UMD. Their college years were full of movie and dinner dates, mini-golf, beach trips, and of course rock concerts. In 2018 on their 5-year anniversary Scott gave Ashlee a promise ring, promising his full commitment to her. They made it through college and graduated together in December 2020, both with degrees from UMD's School of Public Health - Scott with a degree in kinesiology and Ashlee with a degree in public health. (Since then, Scott has graduated with a Masters in Athletic Training from Towson University, and Ashlee is actively pursuing her MD degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine!)

Finally Getting Married!

***

Scott and Ashlee have been there for each other through all the highs and all the lows of the past decade. On July 9, 2022 Scott got down on one knee and gave Ashlee a second ring - this time an engagement ring. Now on December 2, 2023 Scott will give her a third ring while he will be getting his first. They're finally getting married, just 3 days shy of their 10-year anniversary as a couple and after 18 years of amazing friendship.
