Matron of Honor
Tara and Erika worked together at her first veterinary clinic job. We became fast friends when we learned we both graduated from Calvin College (11 years apart), liked soccer, and love learning anything about animals. Tara is my official "long lost, older sister that arrived in the mail late". Over the years, we've enjoyed going to ArtPrize, every dog-themed boutique stores and events, and enjoying the deliciousness of Boston Market (RIP Holland, MI location). But anybody who knows us, knows the only reason why we're friends: her dog Olly. My one and only pit bull boyfriend (don't worry, Scott knows he's second fiddle to Olly). We miss Olly tremendously, since his passing in June 2020 and wish he was still here. He was the best dog ever, and I'm planing to still keep Tara around. :)
Best Man
Tyler and Scott have been friends since middle school. We met at the middle school youth group at Blendon CRC Church. I remember his parents bringing him over to hang out with the youth group while the adults had bible study. His parents later learned the annoying buzzing noise coming from the field behind the church was us running a nitro powered RC truck, while they quietly discussed bible verses. Oops. Later on in high school, we hung out on the weekends and had lots of bonfires and worked on our cars (we both had Mustangs at the time). We've shared many road trip adventures, that usually resulted in some sort of mishap. Just ask him about the time he wore dress shoes to the hotel pool and the time we had to change a tire on a motor home on the way to Higgins Lake.
Bridesmaid
Anna is Scott's youngest, adopted sister. She was adopted from Russia when she was 6 or 7 years old (I can't remember these things; clarify with my mom). It's fun to tell people she's Vladimir Putin's niece (she's not), just to catch them off-guard. Anna has worked for me at Scotty's Auto Service since 2014. Anna also likes cars like me, but was recently tainted by her new husband to like drift cars vs. good ol' American muscle. :) Our favorite past times at work are to bicker on who is going to drive the customer's minivans and telling customers that we're siblings. Her nickname is Oompa Loompa, as two of her equals one of me in height. Anna looks forward to her annual "difficult to open" Christmas gift. Just ask her about how much duct tape we use to wrap it. :)
Groomsman
Erika's younger (but not so little) brother. We've know each other since 1995. But don't let his current state of cuteness fool you; he was a big pain in my side when we were kids. Now, we are closer than ever! That practically all started the day I moved to Grand Rapids for college and he cried on the way home, "My heart is broken". So basically Aaron is now mortified that I wrote this on here, but it's good to show his soft side :). All in all, Aaron is one of the most loyal and hardworking people you will ever meet. He knows everything about soccer, is the most talented goalkeeper I know (biased as his proud older sister), and always well dressed (except when he shaves his kneecaps :) ). PS you think I'm a crazy cat lady... you haven't seen how much Aaron loves cats, too :)
Bridesmaid
Marissa and Erika have been friends since meeting freshman year in band at Calvin College. We both played clarinet and sat next to each other. Mid-way through first semester freshman year, our friend Steph (also in band with us and sat on the other side of me), hysterically re-introduced Marissa because the three of us were in Steph's dorm room and not in the band room! Marissa and I lived in the same dorm and apartment for most of college. Her parents became my "Grand Rapids parents" during college and it became a highlight of the week to go to their house for Sunday lunch (be sure to ask Mrs. Nobel about her specialty--burnt crescent rolls!) or eating at Carlos O'Kelly's (RIP delicious restaurant) and Cantina.
Groomsman
Scott and Jon have been friends since high school. We met through Tyler. Jon is also a car guy, like Tyler and I, so usually the three of us were working on cars. I remember going with him to look for a wrecked Grand Prix to fix up. We had to use farm equipment and his parents' Yukon to bend it back into shape. He drove that (formerly bent) Grand Prix daily and raced it at the drag strip. Jon and I have also shared our fair share of mishaps on adventures involving vehicles. We had the pleasure of changing a flat tire on Jon's car, in a blizzard, in Chicago, after flying back from Mexico, all while wearing shorts from said vacation. Or the numerous times of flying around Jon's parents' family farm on Lake Michigan Drive in their golf cart (it's a miracle we survived).
