While on an adventure in Middle Earth (New Zealand), Scott had planned a proposal of special significance. We were to go on a lantern-led night walk through Hobbiton after our evening feast at the Green Dragon, and, stopping in front of Bilbo’s own door, Scott was going to gather his courage and go down on a knee. However, to everyone’s dismay, a massive storm rolled through Hobbiton and stuck around past dinner, so the night walk was cancelled! Scott messaged our families in a panic that his plan had been thwarted. The next day was our last full day in New Zealand, and, to quote Gandalf, “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us” -- Scott now had to come up with a Plan B, with only a days worth of adventure left to him. The next afternoon we headed to Hot Water Beach. After trying to pick a spot out of a small patch of beach with at least 50 people already hogging it, and digging holes for a hot-spring tub only to have the ocean wipe it out, we gave up and started walking down the beach towards our car. Being our last night, I insisted we walk for a little longer along the coast, and eventually he insisted on us taking a picture together. We set the phone up on a timer to take multiple shots, stood together for the first shot, he headed down onto his knee for the second, and by the third he had the ring out and the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on his face. The simple and momentous words “will you marry me” came from his lips, and my response came from mine: “Is this for real???” We're so excited to have our closest family and friends join us for our party of special significance!
