We are happily married and have genuinely been experiencing a wonderful union. It was important to us to honor God's will for our lives and commit to each other as husband and wife, so we exchanged our vows on September 12, 2020. Although we imagined that our wedding ceremony would be different, the small, intimate setting allowed us to focus on the importance of marriage. It was truly a memorable and special day, but you all know how much we love our family and friends, so we have to run it back. With that being said... Let's dance the night away. Let's eat good food. Let's laugh until we cry and have a drink or two or three. LET'S CELEBRATE! Thank you for your patience as we contemplated how to best move forward with our one year anniversary celebration. After a lot of prayer, careful consideration and staying up-to-date on the latest COVID-19 news, we believe that we can move forward with our reception safely and responsibly. We hope that you're excited to celebrate our first year of marriage with us on September 11, 2021, at 6 P.M. at Dataw Island in Beaufort, SC. Here's the plan: We'll start off with cocktail hour and follow it up with the reception. And there's a catch... We want everyone in attendance to stick to a dress code: Attire: Black Tie Ladies: ALL WHITE (No Ivory, Eggshell, or Cream) Gentlemen: BLACK SUIT or TUXEDO, Black/White Shirt & Tie We want our celebration to be all-inclusive. Yes, we are commemorating our marriage, but we can all agree that we are celebrating everyone's accomplishments and the hardships that we overcame over the past year. If you're reading this message, just take a moment to tell the Lord, "THANK YOU FOR LIFE." He has seen us all through an extremely challenging year. We cannot thank you enough for your understanding, support and patience through this whole process. We are looking forward to greeting you all with warm hugs when we are finally together. Trust us, you don't want to miss it. With Love, The Kings
On March 8, 2016, Domonic and Nye sat across from one another, savoring a hot cup of coffee at the Eagles Landing Starbucks. Eager to start her work day, Nye flipped open her Macbook to find that her computer had only 5% battery life. Typical Nye! Spotting an outlet next to Domonic, she kindly asked him to plug her charger into the wall. He asked her to return the favor by watching his things while he stepped away, and when he came back, he thanked Nye and proceeded to introduce himself. Domonic had recently moved to Atlanta and hoped Nye might offer to be his tour guide. They had a nice conversation, and to Nye’s surprise, he didn’t ask for her number. It was refreshing to meet a man who sought nothing more than a pleasant exchange. A few days later, they greeted each other from a distance with a friendly smile and wave. He still hadn’t asked for her number, but you know what they say - third time’s a charm. On the third “chance” meeting, Nye packed up and stopped to chat with Domonic before leaving. As fate would have it, they found out they were both familiar with the same little sea island in South Carolina. Both of their moms were from St. Helena Island and still referred to it as home. Nye was a bit skeptical about Domonic’s story, but when he walked her outside and asked for her number, she handed him a business card. Although Domonic was persistent and sweet in his approach, it took time for Nye to come around. They had one coffee date but wouldn’t see or talk to each other again for more than a year. Nye later had a party to celebrate being initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and, unaware that her mom had invited Domonic, was shocked when he showed up. He confessed that he no longer had her number and asked for it again, but Nye made him wait. The following night, Domonic had a eureka moment: THE BUSINESS CARD! He found it in his top drawer - SWISH! - and called Nye to invite her out on a hike. They've walked together ever since.
Last summer, 29 close friends and family members traveled to Cancun, Mexico in celebration of a huge milestone - Nye’s father Will had turned 50 years old! As plans for the trip unfolded beforehand, it was clear that this would be a special time where so many people who have played an instrumental role in shaping the woman that Nye is today would all be together in one place at one time. This was a RARE occasion, to say the least. Nye’s Godparents, aunts, uncles, and best friend would be there to make Will’s birthday extra special... and they did, but there is more to the story! Domonic, his mom, and his cousin decided to tag along, because who could say no to a five-day summer vacation in Mexico? Domonic also saw an opportunity to ask Nye for her hand in marriage in a place she loves, around the people she absolutely adores, and when she least expected it. Every person that made the trip down to Cancun was in on the plan. Nye’s parents had given Domonic their blessing and graciously made way for an already exciting trip to become even more memorable. On Tuesday, July 2, all 29 people journeyed to one of Nye’s favorite destinations: Isla Mujeres. They traveled by foot, bus, ferry, and a caravan of golf carts to the southernmost tip of the island, where the setting was absolutely gorgeous! Picture an ancient sculpture garden situated atop a giant cliff overlooking the vast blue Atlantic Ocean on the sunniest afternoon imagineable. Everyone strolled along, taking in the sights and snapping photos, eagerly awaiting the right moment to catch Nye off-guard. As the walking path came to an end and the group gathered around with cameras at the ready, Domonic grabbed Nye by the hand, nervously dropped down on one knee, and... COMPLETELY forgot everything he had planned to say! Still, he managed to string together a few sincere words to express his love for Nye, and more importantly, he remembered to ask her, “Will you marry me?” The best part is... SHE SAID YES!
