Tuscany is home to some of the most significant and well-known artistic accomplishments in the western world. The architecture seen at the major cathedrals in Florence and Siena is par excellence. Many Tuscan cultural sites were designed or painted by world-renowned renaissance artists, including Leonardo Da Vinci and others from that period. In the countryside, the signature Tuscan style is evident at every Castillo, Villa, and commune along the way. For food, there’s no shortage of cuisine at all levels in Tuscany. Some of the most familiar, simplistic dishes often attain depth of flavor that is memorable to say the least. Both Gambero Rosso and the Michelin Guide recognize a plethora of restaurants at all levels of formality and budget.
Florence is a world-class cultural destination. Visit the duomo. Take a walk along the river and cross the historic bridge Ponte Vecchio. Along your stroll, stop and quench your thirst at one of the many wine windows. And don’t miss out on the sandwiches you’ll find in the streets of Florence are excellent. Our favorite sandwich stalls are All’Antico Vinaio and I Fratellini. Siena, about an hour south of Florence, was once its own kingdom. Situated on a hilltop, Siena is quaint and traditional in many regards. Compared to Florence, much of Siena remains untouched by time and modern influence.
Scattered across the rolling Tuscan hills, other notable areas and towns include: Chianti-Classico: Represents a large land area between Florence and Siena, home to countless wineries, castles, artisanal butcher shops, and more.
