Our Engagement
After Tyler's family home flooded by Hurricane Ian in September 2022, it was a battle keeping her away from her family, hometown, and friends for the longest time they've ever been apart. Once her family got the clear to be able to move back in in the middle of June 2023, Tyler waited no time in constructing a plan to get Luke there which so happened to be the week of Fourth of July and his birthday where we normally camp or go to Wisconsin so she bribed him with Luke Combs tickets. The second we got on the plane until we landed, Luke was relentless about getting conch fritters at our favorite bar right by the Sanibel bridge. Tyler being clueless as always agreed to going even though she made plans with her family and best friend, Amanda, that night. We weren't home for more than 45 minutes and everyone was rushing me out the door to get Luke conch fritters. We got to Bimini Bait Shack- has our favorite frozen drinks and Luke got his conch fritters. Then as we are leaving my sister, Sydney, and her boyfriend, Kyle, told me they had to go help his sister and would meet up with us in a couple hours instead of going downtown like we had planned but my mom and dad offered to take them so we didn't have to. Tyler thought nothing of it and Luke suggested we drive to Sanibel while we are here and see the progress since the hurricane. And the next part is so typical Tyler. lol Tyler was so annoyed, got out of the driver's seat and insisted " if you want to see my favorite place destroyed and make me upset within the first hours of being home- then go for it". She complained the entire way until she had to pee at a random beach on Sanibel. We stopped, went to the bathroom, and as she started walking back to the car Luke suggested we walk to the water. Tyler instantly had a million complaints run through her head and out her mouth thinking Luke was about to do one of his daily walks in this thousand degree weather- "Luke I'm not in the mood to go on one of your walks right now", "it's too hot for this", " I don't want to have to redo my hair and make up later to go out", and the one she was relentless about- parking. "We need to pay for parking", "it's a $150 fine" the list goes on... haha. He kept just reassuring her it wouldn't be too long and it's fine- just keep going. Tyler knowing she wasn't going to win here eventually stopped complaining and started doing her thing- taking pictures, picking up shells and putsing along. She picked up a shell and turned to show Luke and he was down on one knee with a photographer near by capturing the entire thing. *cue tears* Once we got back in the car- Tyler started calling and texting all her friends so excited (wondering why half of them aren't picking up the phone but didn't think anything of it) as we headed to meet her family and Amanda for dinner and drinks. Once we got there, we walked inside to a surprise engagement party with my family and a bunch of my friends from all over Florida. * cue even more tears* It was the most perfect surprise ever. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Colorado!
