Things To Do

We're so excited to share some of our favorite things to do in the area with you, especially with our West Coast family!
Peabody Essex Museum

Peabody Essex Museum

161 Essex Street, Salem, MA 01970

An incredible museum that is a favorite of Abby's. It has both historical artifacts and art in endless galleries to explore.

The Beach

The Beach

Nahant, MA

The town of Nahant has a few of its beaches, and July is the perfect time to dip in the cool Atlantic Ocean.

Visit Salem

Visit Salem

Salem, MA

There are a million fun witch-themed things to do in Salem. It's easy to park downtown and walk to numerous interesting museums, shops, restaurants, and historic sites.

Hammond Castle Museum

Hammond Castle Museum

80 Hesperus Avenue, Gloucester, MA 01930

Built in the mid-to-late 1920s, this castle was designed to house its original owner's collection of Roman, medieval, and European Renaissance relics. A stunning and odd building, it's worth a visit. Also note, the town is pronounced "Glaa-str", we promise.

Fenway Park - Boston Red Sox

Fenway Park - Boston Red Sox

4 Jersey Street, Boston, MA 02215

Sox fans or not, Fenway Stadium is an incredible historic venue to tour, and seeing a game from here feels much closer than newer stadiums.

Castle Hill on the Crane Estate

Castle Hill on the Crane Estate

290 Argilla Road, Ipswich, MA 01938

As fans and supporters of the Trustees of the Reservation, we cannot forget to list the Crane Estate. An Italian Renaissance revival-style house sits atop a hill, overlooking beautiful gardens, lush lawns, and extending all the way down to the ocean.

Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

465 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115

An incredible permanent collection and rotating exhibits, not to be missed for art lovers.

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

25 Evans Way, Boston, MA 02115

What started as one woman's private collection turned into a public museum, also home to the greatest unsolved art heist.

Whale Watching Trip

Whale Watching Trip

There are lots of various companies offering whale-watching trips, and it's definitely worth an afternoon if you've never been. Seeing the Voyage of the Mimi is not required, but always recommended.

Freedom Trail

Freedom Trail

Freedom Trail, Boston, MA

An absolute Boston classic. This walking tour takes you around the city, stopping at important historic sites, and tells the tale of America's beginnings.

Boston Duck Tours

Boston Duck Tours

53 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02116

You have to do a Duck Tour at least once in your life. There's a reason our sports teams have parades with them.

Harvard University

Harvard University

Cambridge, MA 02138

Downtown Cambridge is lots of fun to explore, and you can visit Harvard and all its museums and see where Abby spent long hours writing papers and drinking wine on the quad. Just don't "pahk the cah in Havahd Yahd", it's an expensive ticket.

Cape Cod

Cape Cod

MA

Spending some extra time in the area? Cape Cod is the vacation destination in the area in the summer. The scenery, beaches, restaurants, and inns are the perfect coastal New England experience, if you don't mind braving the traffic!

Martha's Vineyard

Martha's Vineyard

MA

Staying for a long weekend? We may be a bit biased, but we think it's the best island in the area. Take the ferry and tour the island on foot or by bike. Don't forget to visit the Gingerbread Houses and lighthouses, Marco's mother, Rose, highly recommends them.

Portsmouth

Portsmouth

Portsmouth, NH 03801

Just about an hour north of Nahant is Portsmouth, NH. Marco lived in this area during his post-doc fellowship, and it's where our families met together for the first time.
