The closest airports to Sorrento have the choice of flying into either Rome (FCO) or Naples (NAP). Rome tends to have more availability for direct and connecting flights and flexibility options for international flights than Naples. Naples has options of direct and connecting and direct flights. Their direct non-stop flights typically have less availability and are only available from Newark Airport. Flying from either airport is approximately the same price and will both require additional travel to get to Sorrento either by Private Car, Train or Ferry! The flight to Italy is approximately 9 hours.

Passports must be issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country and valid for 6 months is recommended (at least 3 months minimum) from the day you leave the country.

Answer

It looks like the traveling Visa required for U.S. citizens traveling to Europe has been postponed to 2025 but we will continue to monitor this and update you all accordingly. If it is required it is a very simple process done via email with a quick turnaround time.

Airport Transportation from Sorrento?

Answer

Once you arrive at Naples International Airport, you can easily reach Sorrento by taking a taxi, shuttle, or using public transportation. There are also private transfer services available. Travel time from Naples to Sorrento: - 1.5 hour. *If scheduling private car back to airport, take into consideration traffic as there is only 1 road in Sorrento.

If you're open to exploring a bit before arriving in Sorrento, you could also fly into other nearby Italian cities like Rome, Florence, or Milan, and then travel to Sorrento by train or another form of transportation.

Uber Available?

Answer

Uber is only available throughout some parts of Italy. Being Sorrento is a smaller city, unfortunately Uber is not available in Sorrento. Yet, if traveling in larger cities like Naples and Rome, Ubers are readily available. From Rome airport to any destination in Rome, it is a flat fee of €50. Traveling within Rome once in the city, pricing varies depending on travel time and destination.

Sorrento Taxi Service?

Taxis are readily available for your convenience for travel in the main square, Piazza Tasso, as well as near the train station, which is right off of the Main Street, Corso Italia. It is possible to book in advance by 1-2 days either by directly booking with taxi service company or through Airbnb host or hotel accommodation. Costs depend on travel time and destination and can range from approximately €30- €50. There is a surcharge for taxis later in the night!

Ferry Information?

From Airport: If flying into Naples or arriving by train, to get to Sorrento you can choose to take the ferry. It is a direct ferry from Naples port to Sorrento port. Travel time is about 40-45 minutes. You will have to take a cab from the Naples train station to Naples ferry port. Ticket prices are about €30. Around Sorrento: Sorrento's main ferry port is located right down by the water. It serves as direct connections to take the ferry to various places including: -Amalfi, Capri, Castellammare di Stabia, Ischia, Naples, Positano, Procida, Salerno You can purchase tickets at Ferryhopper.com or at the port.

Train Information?

You can take the train from Rome to Naples, then will have to take a private car or ferry from Naples to Sorrento. Fast train: (Frecciarossa) Travel time is 1-1.5 hour departing from Rome leaving directly from the airport, Fiumicino Aeroporto station, or from Roma Termini station, which is 40 minutes from the airport. If purchased early, can range from €30-€50 one way. If purchased later or at the station, it can be double the price. There is only 1 direct fast train from the airport (FCO) to Napoli Centrale station which is at 9:30am, or you’ll have to transfer at Roma Termini. Slow train: (Intercity) Travel time is 2-2.5 hrs and price is typically cheaper almost half the price. If purchased early, can range from €15-€20. If booked early, the train is €30 but can also be purchased at the station but may be double the price. The destination station is Napoli Centrali. After the train, you can a private car from the station directly to Sorrento or take a taxi to the ferry to Sorrento. You can purchase TRAVEL PASS through your phone company to use your phone for $10/day unlimited usage. Verizon, AT & T and T-Mobile offer this service. Also highly recommended to download WhatsApp to communicate to each other while in Italy!

COVID-19: Arriving from the U.S, Italy does NOT require proof of vaccination, a negative test result, or a COVID 19 recovery certificate to enter the country, regardless of vaccination status.
