March 28th, 2019. The day two amazing, caring, funny, smart, driven, selfless, attractive (the list goes on) individuals met at a local bar named KAI Bar in East Greenwich, RI. Mike was sitting at the bar with a couple friends playing a game when he was rudely interrupted by the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. If you ask Shelby, Mike was sitting alone at the bar, but she thought this tall, dark, and handsome man looked oddly familiar. Without hesitation Shelby walked right up to Mike and asked, "Are you Caitlin Cunninghams brother?" Mike, who undoubtedly looks very much like his sister, replied with a nervous "Yes" followed by a blank stare for two reasons. First, had he met this girl before throughout the years and somehow couldn't remember? Second, who was this gorgeous brunette and how was this socially awkward man going to muster up the courage to have a coherent conversation? Luckily Shelby, the outgoing and social butterfly that she is, had no problem filling the void. Immediately all the nerves went away and the pair hit it off, even ignoring the party Shelby had been throwing in the other room and Mike the friends he had been sitting with. They were in their own world learning about each other and living in the moment. Shelby had just moved back to Rhode Island after spending time traveling and working in New York and Florida. Mike had also moved back recently from Virginia Beach, VA. A shared experience that brought them together. After a night of great conversation Mike gained the courage to ask Shelby for her number, which she happily provided. The two went their separate ways all smiles not knowing what was to come, or if they would ever see each other again. Mike was smitten and did not want her to slip away. As Shelby would quickly learn, Mike is always in search of instant gratification. He promptly ignored the "3 day rule" and called her the very next day to set up a date. The rest is history.
