Millennium Park is a must (of course, you’ve got to see The Bean!) While you’re in the area, check out the Art Institute and the Chicago Cultural Center for some beautiful architecture. The park is just a few blocks from the river, so take a stroll and treat yourself along the way. You can stop by the Nutella or Ghirardelli stores (fun fact: you can even get a container of Nutella personalized with your name!)
The Chicago Riverwalk is one of our favorite ways to enjoy downtown, and honestly nothing beats the skyline views or watching the boats go by. We love grabbing a bite along the water at Pizza Portofino, Beatnik on the River, or Gibsons Italia. While you are in the area, do a little shopping on Michigan Avenue or if you’re into heights, Willis Tower Skydeck has amazing views (glass floor if you’re feeling brave). Another favorite of ours is the Harold Washington Library which has nine floors to explore and a secret winter garden on top that is such a peaceful little surprise. You can't go wrong in this area. Downtown is full of tiny surprises and picture perfect spots around every corner!
If you have a free evening while you’re here, Chicago’s theatre scene is such a fun way to spend it. Broadway in Chicago has amazing productions at gorgeous historic venues like The Chicago Theatre, the Cadillac Palace Theatre and the James M. Nederlander Theatre. Or if you’re in the mood for laughs, we absolutely love The Second City, their mainstage shows are always hilarious! Zanies is another great option if you’re up for classic stand-up in a cozy setting.
Chicago is such a fun city for food, and there are a few things you can’t miss. Deep dish pizza at Giordano’s, a smash burger at Au Cheval or Small Cheval, and a Chicago style hot dog and Italian beef at Portillo’s are classics. And of course, don't miss Laney's favorite dessert, the chocolate cake shake! For a little adventure, check out Chinatown or head to the West Loop for some of the city’s best restaurants, like Green Street Smoked Meats, Trivoli Tavern, and Armitage Alehouse. Coffee fans, don’t miss Plen Air, Spoke & Bird, Caffe Umbria, or La Colombe!
