Savannah and Tyus met in Washington, D.C. while they were both working for Teach for America. Savannah was in her second year teaching Spanish at Eliot-Hine Middle School after graduating from UVA, and was introduced to Ty, a new TFA member from University of Colorado Boulder. Ty was choosing between two schools and the couple jokes that fate ultimately brought him to Eliot-Hine, which was a struggling middle school in trailers. The competing offer was at a top-notch high school with a brand new shiny building and an incredible athletic program. On paper, the decision made no sense. When Ty saw her again at professional development, he admitted that he could not keep his eyes off Savannah all day. He joined the staff and when they started the year their classrooms were right across from each other with big windows facing one another. The students caught on quickly and it was a major point of discussion among them. Eventually, after forming a friendship, Ty asked Savannah to go shopping at Georgetown. While at the time it was friendly, they now consider this their first date. They had an amazing time lingering for hours at the Nike store and others, browsing store to store as an excuse to keep spending time together. Not long after that shopping date, they were at each other's homes at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and discovered many of their values and interests aligned; service, education, family, traveling, being outdoors, playing and following sports (and some opposing teams!) They both quickly knew that this was their person. Almost two years later, Ty surprised Savannah at that same Georgetown location for their engagement. Savannah and Ty completed Teach For America and left Washington, but cherished their time there. They chose it as the location for their engagement shoot because or the many memories.
