Guy walks up to a girl at a bar. Let's rewind! Savannah and Chi-Dao were both part of of the Lucky Shots Pickleball League, but didn't meet on the court, they were briefly introduced to one another at the 1029 Bar. Though the conversation was short and sweet, on the way home, she called her mom and said, “I met a really great guy.” Every week after pickleball, the league would meet at 1029. Around the overcrowded table, Savannah and Chi-Dao had the littles talks about important subjects like favorite croissants (Bellecour vs. Dîane’s) and the best salad spots for lunch (obviously Green + the Grain). It was there, in the dive bar, that a friendship began. Towards the end of the league, the group decided to start a book club, led by Savannah. The first pick had to be a good one to keep everyone excited, and the obvious choice was "A Court of Thorns and Roses." Chi-Dao joined the club. Not only did he create a detailed PowerPoint presentation with his dream cast, but he also kept coming back for future books. Now here’s where luck really comes into play: they kept running into each other at coffee shops and live candlelit concerts. But it ultimately took Savannah swiping up on a story about basketball (keep in mind Savannah at the time knew nothing about basketball) and Chi-Dao said lets go to the next game...well the next game was a playoff game and the Wolves clawed their way back to make the first date happen. Chi-Dao arrived at Porzana early; Savannah was purposefully five minutes late, not sure if it was just friends going to dinner or something more. But by the end of the appetizers, it was clear it was a date. From there, a year unfolded, filled with sharing their favorites like restaurants, concerts, long walks, and even playing in the waves. Fast forward one year from that first date: they had a night planned at the orchestra and Porzana. On the walk over, Savannah said, “Nothing can top brunch.” She was so wrong.
