Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Sasha Pozdniakova and Gerrit Köchling
Hamburg, as the country's largest port city, is Germany's "Tor zur Welt" (gate to the world). It sprawls along the banks of the Elbe river in Northern Germany and boasts a rich maritime heritage. Whether you arrive early or stay a bit longer after the wedding festivities, we have a few suggestions on what to do and see in the city.
Alster lake

Alster lake

An der Alster, Hamburg, 20099, Germany

- What to do: when the weather is good, enjoy a walk or run around Alster lake (Außenalster) - Tip: don't get run over by the manic bike riders

Landungsbrücken

Landungsbrücken

Landungsbrücken, Hamburg, 20359, Germany

- What to do: take a stroll along the Elbe river and enjoy the harbor atmosphere - Tip: you can do a harbor tour on one of the many boats or visit the old tunnel beneath the river

Speicherstadt

Speicherstadt

Am Sandtorkai, Hamburg, 20457, Germany

- Why visit: this 19th century "warehouse city" by the river is UNESCO World Heritage and has excellent picture spots - Tip: take the opportunity to also take a stroll through the adjacent Hafencity, ending the walk at the iconic Elbphilharmonie opera house

Miniaturwunderland (Museum of Miniatures)

Miniaturwunderland (Museum of Miniatures)

2 Kehrwieder, Hamburg, HH 20457, Germany

- Why visit: the world's largest model railway exhibit with incredible attention to detail (and if you're in the Speicherstadt you're practically already there) - Tip: book tickets online to avoid long queues

Reeperbahn (nightlife and red light district)

Reeperbahn (nightlife and red light district)

Reeperbahn, Hamburg, 20359, Germany

- Why visit: Hamburg's famous nightlife and red light district with bars, live music venues, theaters and more is always worth a visit. Beware though, it's not PG13 :) - Tip: if you go out on Reeperbahn, start the evening with drinks in rooftop restaurant CLOUDS on top of Tanzende Türme (set to re-open in time for your visit on 01st of July)

Fischmarkt

Fischmarkt

Große Elbstraße 9, Hamburg, 22767, Germany

- Why visit: lively Sunday morning market with fresh seafood and produce, live music and a bustling atmosphere - Tip: honestly, the only right way to visit Fischmarkt is to have breakfast there after a night out on Reeperbahn, kudos if you manage (just don't do it before the wedding please). Have a Fischbrötchen for the full experience

Planten un Blomen (parklands)

Planten un Blomen (parklands)

Marseiller Promenade, Hamburg, 20355, Germany

Why visit: if you've had enough of the outdoors at river or lake, take a stroll through beautiful green spaces in the city center

Sternschanze

Sternschanze

Schulterblatt 74, Hamburg, 20357, Germany

- Why visit: this disctrict gives a glimpse into the more alternative and artsy side of the city but is also tremendously popular for drinks on warm summer evenings - Tip: Great for exploring small family-run shops

St. Michael's church
