His Version: Most of you know that Sascha and I met at the gym. It took some time to muster up the courage to even say hi. I would say that I saw her about once a week because we didn’t always go to the gym at the same time. She didn’t know it at the time, but I noticed she would show up a little later than I did, so I decided to adjust my schedule slightly. That way I would have a better chance of running into her. It started with us exchanging glances and grew from there. Now she won’t admit it but I’m pretty sure she smiled at me first. Either way, once she smiled at me, I smiled right back and was very excited about it. I knew at the very least I wanted to introduce myself and ask for her name. The smiling and waving happened a few more times and I decided I better do it before she thinks I’m just another run of the mill gym guy that doesn’t have the balls to make a move. So, on a Tuesday after a three-day weekend, I noticed that she was working out in a room with not very many people. I thought okay this is perfect I can introduce myself and ask her how her weekend was. Also not being around a bunch of people provided a little bit of privacy. It wasn’t the best timing though. She was in the middle of a set, and she had to stop and take out her ear buds. Nevertheless, she was very nice, said it was nice to meet me, and told me her name was Sascha. The interaction went well I thought and was stoked I took advantage of my opportunity. I don’t remember if I ran into her again that day and asked her out or if it was the next time I saw her. To come to a very happy conclusion I ended up asking her out and she said yes. The rest is history. Her Version: I was at the gym after work, minding my own business and I happened to take my headphones out, probably to clean them, and this guy walked up to me and said “I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to introduce myself, I’m Josh.” We chatted briefly after exchanging names and went about our business. I remember texting Amber that some guy had introduced himself to me but that he looked young. Her reply was “well he was confident enough to introduce himself to you” which made me feel better even if he was younger. He says I smiled at him first and that’s why he introduced himself but that doesn’t sound like me but maybe it was the endorphins. I started seeing him around the gym more and more and smiling and waving. We chatted in the weight room one day about a trip to Pismo he had just taken with his friends. Another day, when the weight room was (thankfully) empty, I was sitting on the ground doing some exercise and he came up to me, standing above me as I sat on the floor. We chatted and I could tell he was about to ask me out, so I stopped what I was doing and stood up, so that he was looking me in the eye not down at me as he asked me out. We exchanged numbers and met up the following Sunday for some drinks. After a couple of hours talking, my friends Hilary and Sam joined us and we all played board games and drank wine. We ended up at my house ordering Chinese Food (a Sunday favorite for me). We started dating in February of 2020, right as the world was shutting down – so we had to decide if we wanted to keep seeing each other quickly. We became part of each other’s “bubble” and we never stopped being together from there.
