You see, there was this Navy Ball in the near future and Sara needed a date. One day at work, Mike flipped on the TV in the break room, saying "Sara! That's my friend Stavi!" as Steve provided the forecast on the noon newscast. After talking him & her up for a few weeks, Steve finally convinced Mike to invite Sara out surfing with them. On a hot, late summer Florida afternoon, Sara approached Steve in a tiny bikini carrying a 9 foot longboard, "Hi! I'm Sara!", she said as she stuck her hand out for a handshake. Steve, mesmerized, went in for a hug. After sharing a few waves and a conversation about upwelling, the rest, as they say, was history.

A few months into their relationship, Sara got the news that in less than a year the Navy would be taking her to Hawaii. A dream of hers ever since she commissioned from the Naval Academy, Steve had no right to hold her back. Their two stubborn minds gave into the idea of a long distance relationship, it would be one that would last two years. It was those long two years that shaped their relationship into something stronger than they ever imagined, so Steve knew he had to propose in Hawaii to shed light on a new beginning. As their long distance was coming to a close, Sara, with the idea that Steve was terrified of marriage, had no idea he'd been building a ring for months.
