The Wedding Website of Sarah Milligan and Skylar Knight
Instead of suggesting hotels, we thought we’d share a bit more about the popular neighborhoods and areas you can stay at in and around San Diego. San Diego County is incredibly spread out and our public transportation is garbage, so please take this into account when picking where to stay. If you plan on traveling around San Diego County, you’ll likely need to rent a car. Check out the links to see our favorite spots in each neighborhood. There are many great places to stay that are close to the venue and more inland that are not on this list (like Vista and San Marcos). Of course, feel free to reach out for more specific suggestions or help deciding on where to stay.

Flight

San Diego Airport

Flying into San Diego is your best option. For folks coming from Europe, there is a direct BA flight from London to San Diego.

Travel Note

Carlsbad and Oceanside

Carlsbad is a beautiful beachside town with great nightlife and a laid back feel. This is the closest town to our venue. You’ll also be very close to Legoland, the famous Carlsbad Flower Fields and many popular beaches and estuaries. Oceanside is also very close to the venue. ~20 min drive to venue

Travel Note

Encinitas / Leucadia

Two more beautiful beach towns, Encinitas and Leucadia are the quintessential hippie new age hubs of Southern California and popular surf destinations. Our favorite things to do here are visit Pannikin Coffee & Tea, stroll through the SRF meditation gardens that overlook the ocean, and explore the many neighborhood beach access points. Encinitas is close to the San Diego Botanic Gardens and San Elijo Lagoon (great for bird watching). ~20 min drive to venue

Travel Note

La Jolla

Also located by the beach, this upscale area has tons of restaurants, galleries, and shopping. La Jolla shores is one of the most accessible places to rent kayaks, stand-up-paddle boards, or learn to surf. La Jolla cove is great for snorkeling (no reefs, just great fish activity). The water doesn’t really warm up until later in the summer so rent/bring wetsuits if you plan on doing any water activities. La Jolla shores has fire pits for evening beach bonfires. ~39 minutes from venue

Travel Note

Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, Downtown San Diego

These areas are quite far from the venue, but close to where we live. They are all located by the beach and have great nightlife for the young and rowdy. These areas are also great places to learn to surf. You’ll be close to the San Diego Zoo, Old Town, Mission Bay, the USS Midway, Coronado, and the Gaslamp district. Our baseball stadium, Petco Park, is also located downtown if you’re interested. ~45 minutes from the venue

Travel Note

Neighborhoods near where we live

Our home base is in Talmadge, San Diego. This is an AWESOME area that Sarah grew up in and we love dearly. It’s near several little neighborhoods with unique shopping, exceptional coffee shops, yummy vegan/vegetarian food, and more microbreweries than you can count. Super close to San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park (where all the fun museums and gardens are). These neighborhoods are: South Park, North Park, Normal Heights, University Heights, Hillcrest. You’re more likely to find Airbnbs than hotels in these areas. ~45 minutes from venue
