Journey into Aspen and see why the Billionaires are kicking all the Millionaires out to Crested Butte! Enjoy the shops and great restaurants. Whomever finds a home without a perfectly manicured and landscaped yard gets a prize! (Must provide proof) Expect to overpay for everything including parking. Seriously though, Aspen is beautiful, although this write-up was also serious, and beautiful. (Written by Robert Barker esq)
If feeling adventurous drive down route 133 out of Carbondale just south of Glenwood Springs. You'll drive a route along a river where you can see large pieces of marble that fell from trains. This marble was used to build the monuments in Washington D.C. You will also drive over McClure pass. Once you pass Paonia reservoir, make a left onto Route 12. It will become a gravel road but passable in a normal car. (You got a rental anyway, beat the hell out of it.) You will drive through gigantu-ous mega-normous aspen groves and over Kebler pass then down into the town of Crested Butte.
If so inclined on the way to Glenwood Springs from Denver, or even later in your trip, drive to the top of Mt. Evans. Highest paved rd. in America and the views are incredible.
