Flight
We recommend flying into Rome (Fiumicino – FCO), which is the largest international airport in Italy and offers the most direct flight options from the U.S. We suggest booking a red-eye flight and trying to sleep during the long journey. With the six-hour time difference, you will arrive early the following day. Please note: the journey from Rome to Cortona takes approximately 3–3.5 hours, so please plan your arrival accordingly. The trip is straightforward, but we recommend allowing extra time and taking the day at a relaxed pace. Upon arrival in Italy, you will also need to go through passport control and customs, which may take additional time.

Travel Note
Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) is Rome’s main international airport, while Roma Termini is the city’s central train station located in downtown Rome. If you are not renting a car or taking a taxi directly to Cortona, you will likely need to travel from the airport to Roma Termini first, where trains depart for the Cortona area. There are several ways to get from Rome Airport (FCO) to Roma Termini. You can take a taxi, bus, rental car, or train. The train is called the Leonardo Express, and we strongly recommend this option because it is direct, affordable, and easy to use. If you decide to rent a car for your trip, you can pick up your rental directly at the airport (FCO). Please watch the video below for guidance on traveling from Rome Airport (FCO) to Roma Termini by train.
Travel Note
From Roma Termini railway station, you can travel to Cortona by train, rental car, or taxi. A taxi may cost €200 or more, so the train is the more economical option if you are not renting a car. There are direct trains from Rome to the Cortona area, but these are regional trains rather than high-speed trains. High-speed train routes are also available, but they almost always require traveling to Florence and making a transfer there, which may not necessarily save time. We recommend allowing at least 3 hours between your flight arrival at Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and your departing train from Roma Termini to Cortona. This allows time for passport control, baggage claim, and travel from the Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) to Rome Termini. The train journey from Rome to the Cortona area typically takes about 2–3 hours, depending on the route and number of stops. The two train stations closest to the venue are Camucia-Cortona railway station and Terontola-Cortona railway station. Taxis are typically available at both stations to take you to your hotel or accommodation. Please watch the video below for helpful guidance on traveling by train in Italy.
