On December 10, 2016, a Christmas party was thrown in the Southside of Richmond. Sarah and Josh were both working at separate restaurants at the time. Sarah had recently moved to Richmond to be closer with her family after graduating from The University of Kansas with her Masters of Social Work. Josh was currently enrolled at VCU's Masters of Social Work program in his second year. The Christmas party was being hosted by two roommates that worked in each of the restaurants where Josh and Sarah were working. Josh was excited that the Christmas break had begun and Sarah was looking to meet new people in this new city. Sarah's red velvet pants immediately caught Josh's eye. He played it cool and waited for an opportunity to introduce himself as he did not think that complimenting her on her pants would be enough of a conversation starter. He was obviously single. As the night went on, Josh recognized one of his favorite musical artist, Griz, playing over the house speakers. He wondered who would be playing Griz at a Christmas party and looked around to see who would have made such a bold choice. To his surprise, the girl in the red velvet pants was next to the speakers. This was as good an opportunity as any. He walked over and complimented her on her unfestive choice. They began swapping stories of when they had seen Griz play and Josh bragged that he also played the alto saxophone, like their mutually appreciated Griz. They quickly realized that they were both social workers and started talking about topics surely not appreciated by readers here. Josh was immediately captured by Sarah's eyes, laugh, and enthusiasm for their topics of conversation. Sarah became enamored with Josh's sense of humor and quick jokes. As the party was winding down, Sarah asked Josh if he would like to grab some coffee soon to talk about 'social work stuff.' Josh stated that he would love to get coffee, but does not want to talk about 'social work stuff.' This was the smoothest pick-up line he had ever delivered. Josh and Sarah spent the rest of his Christmas break almost entirely together.

On May 21, 2023 in Zion National Park after a weekend of celebrating one of Sarah's best friends marry the love of her life in the most picturesque place ever, Josh and Sarah took off in a tie dye campervan to embark on a week long journey to explore the Mighty 5 National Parks in Utah! After getting packed up and hitting the road, Josh and Sarah planned a sunset hike at Canyon Overlook in Zion National Park. It was a short and extremely rewarding hike. At the overlook, we sat on top of a rock soaking it all in as the sun slowly went down. At one point we were getting ready to get up from our prime spot to give someone else time there when Josh suggested we ask this woman with a nice camera on a tripod who seemed to know what she was doing to take our photo. Josh slyly told her to just keep taking photos, which Sarah didn't even register until after all this went down. As Josh and Sarah were posing for the photo, Sarah noticed Josh move to his side and put his hand in his pocket and next thing she knew he was on his knee!!! Hands covering her mouth, Sarah definitely questioned if this was really happening (a few times lol) and then said YES and everyone was cheering for them! Sarah's fingers were swollen from the elevation, but she made that ring fit and it was beautiful. They posed for some photos that the kind stranger offered to take after the proposal. She even caught the whole proposal on video. What a gift! Josh definitely chose the right person to spring this on! After the proposal, Josh and Sarah hung out at the look out for a little while longer, giddy as hell, before making their way down to the camper van and heading to dinner in Springdale to celebrate! It was the best way to kick off their adventures in Utah!
