Most people will remember 2020 as the year a global pandemic swept the world for the first time in over a century. In a year where so many not so great things happened, one amazing thing did: Sarah and Jonathan met and fell in love. Jonathan was born and raised in Texas. In May of 2020, he decided to move to Tacoma Washington for a fresh start. Washington's beauty and opportunity called to him and so he went; ready for adventure. Sarah was born in Texas, raised in California and moved to North Carolina as a young adult. Traveling the country for work brought her to many states over the years. In October of 2020, Sarah took a contract in Seattle Washington for work; somewhere she had always seen herself living. Like most Millennials, Jonathan and Sarah turned to a dating app to find someone to meet. After connecting on the app and sending many messages back and forth over a few days, the pair decided to meet for Coffee in Tacoma. On October 17th the pair met at Manifesto Coffee. Not afraid of any subject, they jumped straight into controversial topics to make sure they were of the same mindset. After 2 hours of talking they knew they had a connection. After that day, Jonathan and Sarah went on a few more dates between Tacoma and Seattle. On October 31st, they got together for a full day of fun and Jonathan officially asked Sarah to be his girlfriend. From there, the rest of their adventure began . . .
191 days. That's all it took Jonathan to know he wanted to ask Sarah to be his wife. After careful planning with Sarah's mom Kathy, his mom Ginger, and some advice from Sarah's best friend Tori, he made a plan. On Mother's Day 2021, Sarah, Jonathan, and Kathy headed to Vashon Island. Sarah thought they were going to celebrate Mother's Day with her mom, taking pictures, shopping, going to a Cidery after picking up a quick lunch and exploring the beautiful scenery together. There were many occasions where Sarah could have suspected something else was going on that day. Between Jonathan being adamant that they take pictures first thing, his over joyous attitude, some suspiciously loud music to cover up her mom digging around in the trunk, him awkwardly holding his coat on the way to the beach and refusing to let her help, her mom using two phones to capture pictures (in reality one was photos and one was video) and then him stopping the photo session just two pictures in to suggest props. You would think Sarah would have caught on; thankfully she was completely oblivious. Jonathan had commissioned a driftwood sign to read "Will you marry me?" Kathy had placed the piece in a pile of other driftwood at the beach ready for Jonathan to grab. The plan was to have Sarah hold it with the question facing out while Kathy snapped a photo and Jonathan stood behind her and got down on one knee. Sarah got annoyed at having the photo session stopped so abruptly for props and proceeded to grab the driftwood out of Jonathan's hand and make like she was going to hit him. In doing so she turned the sign to face her and didn't even see it! Jonathan then mentioned that the driftwood looked funny. Sarah looked down at the piece and then realization dawned as Jonathan pulled out the ring box and got down on one knee. Sarah was overwhelmed, stunned, and shocked. So much so that her legs gave out and she started sobbing. After finally catching her breath, Sarah turned her wet face with a beaming grin at Jonathan and said Yes!
