FAQs

Question

Are my kids invited?

Answer

We love your kids — we really do. But we want our wedding to be your night off! And since our reception is a seated dinner, we'd love to keep our wedding and reception adults only. Thanks for your understanding!

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

We recommend staying at an Airbnb in downtown New Iberia or the Hampton Inn & Suites New Iberia Avery Island. Please see our Travel tab for more info!

Question

Will a shuttle be provided to the ceremony?

Answer

Yes! We'll be providing shuttles to and from the wedding for our out-of-town guests. It will travel between Hampton Inn & Suites and Rip Van Winkle Gardens, as well as Bouligny Plaza on Main Street in New Iberia and Rip Van Winkle Gardens.

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

If your invitation says “and Guest,” then yes. If not, we would prefer if it was just you!

Question

What's the dress code?

Answer

Cocktail attire, please! We'll be getting married outside on a beautiful grassy lawn, so you might want to forego stilettos.

Question

Do I need to select a meal for dinner?

Answer

No need to make a meal selection! We'll be serving our reception dinner family style, with a variety of traditional American and Cajun dishes that represent some of Andrew's and Sarah's favorites. We hope there's something for everyone! Please let us know if you are vegetarian or have dietary restrictions.

Question

What's the story of the chimney in the water?!

Answer

Our wedding will take place on the shores of Lake Peigneur at Rip Van Winkle Gardens just outside New Iberia. In the 1980s, an oil rig accidentally drilled into a salt mine under Lake Peigneur, creating a hole in the floor of the lake and a whirlpool that sucked in 65 acres of land and homes. So much water drained into the caverns below the lake that the flow of the nearby Delcambre Canal changed course, causing a backflow that temporarily created the tallest waterfall ever in the state of Louisiana (164 feet) as the lake refilled with salty water. (Important to note: No one was killed in the drilling disaster and ensuing flood!) Days after the whirlpool, nine sunken barges and a chimney from a submerged house reappeared on the lake's surface. That single chimney is depicted on our save the date cards, thanks to a drawing by maid of honor Rachel Lawson!
