Joe and Sarah met at a birthday party their senior year of High School and stayed in touch as good friends throughout their college years. After college, Sarah joined Joe in the sport of Powerlifting and they grew closer around their shared nerdy interests and humor. Joe and Sarah started officially dating in December 2015 and went on their "first date" to see the new Star Wars!

Joe had some impressive coordination efforts for this one, so buckle up! It started when Sarah's lifelong friends, Lauren and Allison, were having a seemingly innocent conversation about getting a manicure. Sarah reluctantly agreed to join them before confiding her suspicions that Joe might pop the question sometime soon. Their Oscar-worthy shock and elation fooled Sarah, because little did she know that Joe had confided in them weeks ago to trick Sarah into getting her nails done for the special day! When their 4th Anniversary came around on December 8th, 2019, Joe had the whole day set up for success. First stop was brunch and then Sarah's favorite ice cream: Marianne's in Santa Cruz! Then, it was a busy and fun-filled day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium - and Joe only looked a little nervous. After a walk along the shore to the Chart House, Joe and Sarah were seated at a table with a beautiful view of the bay and indulged in an absolutely delicious meal. So when's the proposal?! The staff cleared our plates and the manager came over and offered us a dessert menu on a separate printed page - but that wasn't the same dessert menu Sarah was pouring over earlier! It was a custom menu with a message from Joe at the bottom: "Will you marry me?" After that the whole team sprang to action - the waiter pulled out Joe's phone (which he'd quietly slipped to him without Sarah noticing) to start recording, Joe got down on one knee, revealed the sparkly beautiful ring, and asked the question aloud - and of course Sarah said yes!
