We met at a close friend’s get together. After the party Rex asked the friend “Who is that girl?” We were friends for a year before we finally started dating. 6 years later on our trip to New Zealand, Rex proposed on Fox Glacier under a natural ice arch. Sound romantic? Well that excursion was almost canceled due to weather. After a few hours delay they decided to let one group fly up via helicopter (close call.) After that, we were going to celebrate in the small town we were staying in and continue on our road trip the next morning, but Mother Nature had plans again. A mudslide took out the only road to our next destination. Our drive went from a few hours to 10 hours, as we had to backtrack around the island. We decided to start the drive that night instead of celebrating, and stay at a motel off the highway after 5 hours. But that’s part of doing life together isn’t it? Navigating the unexpected and still finding joy in it. I mean, we did end up stumbling upon the best meat pie shop, and got extra hours to chat about our future while seeing picturesque landscapes.
