Ramiro León

and

Sara Brown

June 13, 2026

Chicago, IL

the after-party to our “I do”

Surprise! If you haven’t heard yet, we already eloped at City Hall on June 13, 2025, just weeks after Ramiro pulled off a proposal beyond Sara’s wildest dreams. Now, exactly one year later, we’re bringing together our favorite people for the ultimate celebration. This will be an evening filled with live music, dancing, sweet treats, late-night eats, and all the joy - without the formality of a ceremony or dinner. It’s not your typical wedding, but it’s everything we love, and we can’t wait to celebrate Chicago-style with all of you!

the proposal

Sara and Ramiro had their very first date at Ping Tom Park in Chicago’s Chinatown. Fast forward three years, when Ramiro began planning how he would propose, he knew it had to be at the same park, with its sweeping views of the Chicago skyline - the place where their story began. Sara had always insisted she wanted to be COMPLETELY surprised, so Ramiro had quite the challenge ahead of him. But nothing could have prepared her for the extraordinary moment he created. On the evening of the proposal, Sara thought she was simply heading out to dinner with her friends, Lauren Kee and Sara Helwink. Lauren had just returned from a trip to China and messaged the group chat suggesting they try a new restaurant in Chinatown that her aunt had recommended. Several other friends couldn't make it, but Sara never suspected a thing (everyone was secretly in on the plan.) After a lack-luster dinner, Sara Helwink suggested they stop by a trendy boba tea shop that was offering a collectible bunny-eared drink. The girls snapped a few fun photos, and then casually strolled around without Sara realizing they were headed toward Ping Tom Park just a block away. As they walked, Lauren “accidentally” dropped an envelope from her bag. Sara picked it up and handed it back, but Lauren urged, “Read it!” Sara read the words on the front of the envelope, "A Walk in the Park." Still confused, Sara then tried again to return the letter to Lauren. Lauren smiled and said firmly, “No, it’s for you, Sara.” It was the first of many love letters Ramiro had written, each one recalling their first date and the memories they’d made since. As Sara entered the park, she was suddenly greeted by one of her best friends from Colorado, Celia, who had flown in just for the occasion. Shocked and already crying, Sara accepted a rose and another letter. With each step deeper into the park, Sara was met by different groups of friends, each handing her a rose and a heartfelt letter. Six in total. Sara pretty much cried the whole time, overwhelmed in the best way possible. Finally, Ramiro’s brother and his family handed her the last rose and letter. Just beyond them, on a hill lined with rose petals, stood Ramiro. Behind him, the Chicago skyline glowed, and in front of him, giant letters spelled out MARRY ME. On one side of the proposal stood the rest of Ramiro’s local friends and family, cheering and celebrating. On the other side, an eager crowd of park-goers who had gathered, some who waited over an hour just to witness this moment. When Ramiro dropped to one knee, perfect posture, straight back and all, the crowd erupted. But the surprises weren’t over. Without Ramiro’s knowledge, his brother Ricardo had secretly flown their parents in from Mexico. Just after Sara said yes, Ramiro’s parents appeared, and the moment became even more unforgettable. Every detail - the roses, the letters, the skyline, the friends - was captured by a photographer and videographer (Ramiro really nailed the planning!) It was a night full of wonder, love, and joy, and a chapter in their story that they will treasure for a lifetime.
