1. Ketubah - The Ketubah is a Jewish marriage contract which specifies the couple’s commitment to each other. The Ketubah will be signed before the wedding ceremony. 2. Chuppah - The Chuppah is a Jewish wedding canopy that symbolizes the home that the bride and groom will build together. The chuppah is open on all four sides, also symbolizing that friends and family are always welcome in the newlyweds’ home. 3. Circling (Hakafot) - Traditionally, the bride enters the chuppah and then circles the groom seven times. In modern practice, the bride circles the groom three times, the groom circles the bride three times, and the couple circles each other once together to show that they will equally support and protect each other. 4. The Wedding Ceremony / Seven Blessings - After the Hakafot, the Rabbi chants prayers which welcome the bride and groom to the chuppah and welcome the guests to the wedding ceremony. As part of the service under the chuppah, the bride and groom exchange rings, which are a symbol of their love and commitment to each other. The wedding contract, the Ketubah, is read aloud. The ceremony is concluded with the chanting of the traditional “Seven Blessings.” 5. Breaking of the Glass / Mazel Tov! - The wedding ceremony concludes with the groom breaking a glass under his foot. There are many significances behind this custom. One of them is that it is a reminder that relationships are as fragile as glass and must always be treated with care, love, and respect. After the breaking of the glass, the guests yell, “Mazel Tov!” which means congratulations or good luck.
Jewish weddings are typically on Sundays since Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath (Shabbat), which is a day of rest. We truly hope that you can make arrangements to join us on our special day!
No, we will be having an unplugged ceremony. We kindly request no phones, cameras, or other electronics during the ceremony for a few reasons. First, we want our guests to be present in the moment with us. Second, we have hired an amazing photographer and we don't want our professional photos to be full of people on their devices. Thank you for understanding. We promise to share the professional photos with you!
