We matched on a dating website in November of 2014, and after a few weeks of talking, we set up our first date for December 11. Rather than go on a typical first date at a bar, Brandon suggested a dessert bar in the West Village known for their delicious sweet treats. We talked for hours over slices of turtle pie and glasses of hazelnut champagne, and couldn't wait to see each other again a few days later at Brandon's birthday party. After that, we were pretty much inseparable, and each time we saw each other, it was harder to say goodbye at the end of each date.
We were on vacation in Arizona for July 4th, for a week of rest and relaxation. We went to a baseball game on July 4th, then woke up early on the 5th for a morning hike in Sedona. After a gorgeous hike in the mountains, we got back to the resort and as I was getting ready to go lay by the pool, Brandon secretly put the ring in his pants pocket with the plan to propose at dinner that night. That plan got foiled pretty quickly -- the restaurant was only 12 tables and we were smack in the middle of all of them! Knowing a public proposal wasn't really my thing, Brandon saved the proposal until after the meal. After a delicious dinner, we got back to the resort, and Brandon asked if I wanted to go for a walk, with the intention of proposing during our night stroll. But I was exhausted from the day and told Brandon I just wanted to lay down, so rather than wait another day, Brandon got down on his knee right there and asked me to marry him! He told me how much he loved me and how he wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, and somehow through my tears, I said yes!
