Beach Day Info - Friday 8/27

The Wedding Website of Sara Groton and Ben Busser
Here's everything you need to know about the beach day on Friday 8/27! Please reach out to John Groton (860-271-3334) with any questions.

Schedule & Location

.

Several motorboats will be taking us to Napatree Point, a 1 ¼ mile beach off of Watch Hill, RI, between 10 - 10:30am. The boat ride will take about 15 minutes. We will be leaving from a personal residence owned by family friends, Alan & Ann Blanchard, who have graciously given us access to their dock. You can congregate in their yard adjacent to the dock. It is a lovely setting. The address is 21 Wall Street in the village of Stonington. The street is off Main Street. You may have to search a bit for parking so please allow plenty of time. We encourage car-pooling. We will begin returning between 1:30-2pm, but can bring folks back earlier if needed. You won't be stranded :)

Please bring with you...

.

-Sunscreen. There should be plenty available but bringing your own is a good idea. -Water! Please bring your own water bottle. -Flip flops or water shoes. You’ll need to step into the water to get off the boat and the sand path to the beach can get really hot. -If you can bring a beach towel, please do so. We will have some extras. The swimming is divine. Drying naturally with the sun & breeze is not a bad option!! We’ll have some beach chairs, but not enough for everyone. A towel will likely be your seating for this excursion. -If you didn't order a wrap or grinder, please bring something to eat. We will be providing a variety of refreshments. **There is no bathroom on the beach. Taking a swim or finding a lonely sand dune are both great options ;)

Contact Person

.

If you have any questions at all, missed a boat shuttle, need an early ride back, etc. John Groton (father of the bride) is your guy! You can reach him at 860-271-3334

Background of Napatree

.

The Hurricane of 1938 caught New England by surprise. Forty-two people were in their Fort Road homes on Napatree when the hurricane struck, and 15 died. The storm demolished all the homes built on Napatree as well as one of the Fort Mansfield gun emplacements. It created several breachways in the spit. The first of these breachways was near the current beach club bathhouses. At least three more broke the connection between Sandy Point and Napatree Point, severing it from the mainland.[1] Sandy Point (where Sara’s sister Sophie & Thomas were married last year) is now an island in Little Narragansett Bay. Combined with the 1938 hurricane, erosion by the sea has caused the Napatree beach line to retreat some 200 feet since the mid-1930s. (Source: Wikipedia)
