Hey, it's Sara! I am so honored to have the opportunity to share with you all the story of how Cade and I met. I was blessed to meet Cade during my first week at Anderson University. That very first week of college, our school assembles what are called "Alpha Groups" for incoming students to get acclimated to college life and get to know their peers. Due to the confusing nature of my incoming status, with being a first year but also transferring quite a few college credits from high school, they forgot to place me in an Alpha Group. I ended up being placed last minute in an alpha group for transfer students. Although this was nerve-racking for me, it ended up being one of the best decisions that could have happened. Immediately, I was introduced to, Olivia Wachsmuth (one of my bridesmaids!), who then introduced me to her roommate, Maggie Fitch (my maid of honor!). We all began spending time together and quickly became friends that day. The following day, I met up with my Alpha Group, which I quickly realized turned into a conjoined group with two other transfer alpha groups (TAG); the three group leaders were close friends, so they decided to create one big group for all of the activities. Later that day, I was meeting up with Maggie and Liv, and I saw that Maggie was talking to a guy from our group, Gabe Cleveland (Cade’s best man!). We invited Gabe to go run errands with us, and soon he became a member of our little group. Little did I know, Cade was in TAG as well, and he was also becoming friends with Gabe. Since Gabe was usually spending time with us girls, it inevitably ended up that Cade was introduced to our group. Cade began spending time with us, and there were several instances where Cade and I ended up sitting next to each other at meals or walking around together during group activities, so I quickly got to know him. During this time, we also realized that we were in the same intro to Bible class. We didn't end up sitting together in class, but it gave us an excuse to do homework assignments together. We had weekly worksheets for class, so I began asking Cade if he wanted to complete the worksheets together. In the next few weeks, we started spending more one-on-one time together. After an event for a campus ministry that we both attended, our group went to dinner at our university's cafeteria. Right then and there, I knew that I needed to make a decision whether to pursue hanging out with him with the intention of a possible relationship; I am so glad that I did. A few nights following, Cade texted me a meme about sweet tea (inside joke!), and it led to me inviting him to try authentic southern sweet tea. We ended up going to Popeyes together and talking for hours. Although it remained unspoken, we were mutually under the impression that we were unofficially dating to decide whether we wanted to pursue a relationship. During our next unofficial date, with homecoming being right around the corner, Cade asked me to be his date! After a few more unofficial dates, Cade officially asked me out right before he left for a campus ministry retreat. The day following his return, we went on our date and went to a local restaurant in Anderson followed by bowling. A few days later, I planned our second date, and we went to the movie theater. As Cade and I were walking to the parking lot after the movie had ended, we were discussing homecoming. I mentioned that we should practice slow dancing, and we ended up dancing under the transmission tower in the parking lot (we danced to the song that will be played for our first dance at our wedding!). It truly is a core memory of mine and one of my favorites. While we were dancing, he asked me to be his girlfriend. Three years later and I’m counting down the days until I’m his wife! Our relationship has truly been one of the biggest blessings in my life, and I am so excited to spend forever with him!
