Handfasting
We realize not everyone is familiar with handfasting ceremonies, so here is some information on this beautiful tradition:
Handfasting is a Celtic ritual in which the hands of the couple to be wed are tied together to symbolize the binding of two lives.
You know that expression "tying the knot?"
Well, THIS is where it came from
At first, it was a symbol of intent or even considered by many a "trial marriage" in which the couple spent a year in marriage
& then decided if their union was to continue or dissolve at the end of that time span but in recent years, it has become incorporated into the main ceremony as a beautiful representation of a couple's union as their lives are "tied together".
This ritual is deeply meaningful to us, & we've even added a special element to it for our union (you'll hear about it the day of)
So there you have it, a brief history on the beautiful practice of handfasting you'll get to be a part of during our special day.
