In March of 2017, Sebastián took a short trip to Tequila, Jalisco with a few friends… that's where tequila comes from. On a Saturday night, in Tequila's sleepy downtown core, Sebastián and his friends found themselves sitting on the patio of the bar "Amor de Mis Amores" when they met Audrey Combs, herself passing through after attending a wedding in Puerto Vallarta a few days earlier. They chatted briefly, then said goodbye and wished each other well, certain that their paths would never cross again. Yet the very next morning, Sebastián and his friends decided to take a tequila distillery tour before departing, and upon arrival at the distillery they realized their only companion on that tour would be Audrey from the night before. They took pictures! They tasted cooked agave! Oh, did they laugh! And at the end of the tour, the group was offered a free beverage at the distillery's bar, which they gladly accepted. It was at this point that Audrey began to realize that Sebastián would be a great match for her friend! Audrey asked Sebastián if he was single, and then followed with a series of questions, culminating in the most important one of all: "Are you looking for a Mexican unicorn?" She showed Sebastián pictures and provided a glowing explanation of the kind of person her friend was. Shortly after, she texted Andrea a description of Sebastián and his Facebook profile picture, along with a link to his Instagram. About a month later, Audrey invited Andrea to one of Sebastián's well-known "whiskey nights". He was a wonderful host and sent Andrea home with a bottle of charanda, but didn't get to talk to Andrea much. They departed with a hug and with Sebastián's now-fateful words, "Look me up sometime" line. Of course, Andrea did no such thing. And so, as the hours turned to days, Sebastián decided to send Andrea a Facebook message. They re-connected at the house of Andrea's friends Mary & Isaac, danced and laughed, and had their first date a few days later.
Sebastián's proposal was, in many ways, a team effort. Without Antonia and Orlando, could he have summoned the entire Santos clan from Ejutla to Oaxaca City? Without Natalie and Yisell, who could have snapped the photos? Without Trio Serenata Oaxaca, who would have provided the soundtrack for the moment? Sebastián proposed to Andrea in front of the Templo Santo Domingo in downtown Oaxaca on a warm Thursday afternoon, right at golden hour because he knows when photos look good. He tried to pretend like they were just meeting up with family for the evening, but the ruse became pretty transparent almost immediately when he decided to wear his favorite new shirt. A trio of musicians awaited them, starting with the classic bolero "La Gloria Eres Tú". Sebastián got nervous and Andrea a little too, and to this day it's still not clear if Andrea forgot to say "yes", but a brief awkward moment still resulted with a ring on Andrea's finger and applause from the crowd.
