During the Jeelakarra Bella, the couple places a mixture of cumin seeds and jaggery on each other's heads, representing that they will face both the bitter and sweet moments of life together. Shortly after, the groom ties the Mangalsutram , a sacred necklace, around the bride's neck, solidifying their marriage.
