Our Story

From High School, To Work, To Dating, To Married, To Divorced, To Reconnecting, To Dating Again, To Getting Married Again

Chapter 1 - We met at El Cerrito High School where we had a Drafting class together and even though we had a class together, we had no connection, but we had mutual friends. After we graduated high school, we began working at Schlage Lock but still there was no connection especially since he denied even knowing me. After I quit Schlage lock and was working at AT&T we ran into each other at a popular happy hour spot where he was there with his bestie Ron Davis. I knew Ron from working at Schlage Lock so of course we talked and got caught up on the latest and greatest at Schlage. I wasn't really talking to Glenn because he had ignored me in the past but I guess that short skirt I was wearing got his attention. It was at that point after completely claiming to not know me he came clean and admitted he did know me and remembered me from school. We indulged in polite conversation, cocktails and he eventually asked for my number. I was over him and rattled off my number quickly as I was leaving, not allowing him to get a napkin and pen from the waitress so he could write it down because that's what you did back in the day. To my surprise he remembered my number and called me later that night to make sure I had gotten home ok. We talked the next day and decided to go on our first day which was to New Light Baptist Church where I was very active. After church we went out to eat and the sparks began to fly. We dated a few years and later got married. We were together for 12 years, but unfortunately, our marriage ended in divorce. We divorced and went on our separate ways. For twenty-two years we had no contact with each other. He stayed in close contact with our New Light family, and I stayed in close contact with my in-laws but our paths never crossed. Chapter 2 - As fate would have it, it was tragedy that brought us back together. On March 18, 2023 we both attended the funeral of his cousin Simone's son, Jordan. That day I was running late to the funeral due to a prior commitment and arrived at the church minutes before the service was to begin. I was standing in line to sign the guest book when an usher came out and asked if there were any family members in the foyer that needed to be seated. I raised my hand and said, "I'm family". The usher said follow me the service is about to begin. She took me straight to the front of a packed church down the center aisle. (Sidebar: I was raised in the black church, when you are late you sit in the first available seat, you don't draw attention to yourself by walking to the front of the church). Once again, fate and along with a little planning from his cousin, we ended up sitting right next to each other. When I saw him, I did a quick scan to see if anyone was sitting next to him and I also did a quick check for a wedding ring, and both were a 'NO". When he realized it was me that had just sat down he initially said, "what are you doing here?” I quickly snapped back, "I'm family". He said, no I don't mean it like that, how did you hear about Jordan's passing. I replied, I divorced you, I didn't divorce your family. After that quick exchange we began the process of catching up on what happened over the last 22 years. After the funeral he walked me to my car, I drove him back to his car, we sat in the parking lot and talked for nearly an hour and we exchanged numbers for the 2nd time. We agreed to stay in contact. He called me later that evening and we talked that night until the sun came up, he called me the next day and again we talked until nearly sun up. A week later we went on our second First Date to the Amador Wine Country. Sparks were flying and we had an unspoken agreement that we were back together. Glenn later moved to Sacramento and shortly after he proposed and here we are with God's guidance and our families support we are getting ready to say "I Do" again.
