Google Flights is a great resource for watching flights and Hopper is a great app, as well. Unfortunately, you'll likely be changing flights several times to get to Cartagena, but compared to other international flights, it's possible to make it affordable. I would suggest looking at direct flights to Cartagena (CTG) from Miami (first choice), Fort Lauderdale, New York City, or Atlanta, rather than from Detroit to Cartagena all in one booking (although you can try). Miami has several nonstop flights to Cartagena, but you'd just have to coordinate flying to Miami first. Full disclosure, we have flown Spirit before and it went well, so that is an option! Avianca is also a great option but you usually have to pay for bags unless you pay to upgrade (which I recommend).

This hotel is more of a resort. It's located directly on the beach with private beach access, multiple pools and delicious restaurants. Transportation from the airport to the hotel is provided. Breakfast is included each day. It is roughly a 10-minute taxi ride from downtown. Sam, Taylor and their families will be staying here from 1/25/26-1/29/26.
