We may be biased, but UVA is a wonderful, walkable campus with plenty to see and a rich history. Built by Thomas Jefferson, UVA is 200+ years old and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Another UNESCO World Heritage site and another Thomas Jefferson design! Monticello is great for those who haven't been before and its gardens are lovely in May. It's about a 15-minute drive from downtown. Afterward, drive to Carter's Mountain (10 minutes away) for a view of all of Charlottesville and a cup of Bold Rock Hard Cider!
Visit this beautiful vineyard a little south of Charlottesville for some wine and / or apps. Plus, we went here on our first date so we think it's great.
Another great vineyard out in Greenwood and known for its 'Crose'. A fun place to picnic.
A very easy hike with a great view just ~30 minutes from downtown Charlottesville. About a 3-mile total hike.
A favorite Italian spot in Charlottesville for +15 years in the heart of Belmont with tons of other restaurants as options in case Tavola is a wait or no reservations. Options around Tavola include Mas (Spanish tapas), The Local (American) and Conmole (Mexican). Plus - we also went here on our first date so it's a pretty special spot for us.
Despite living in NYC for almost 4 years, Bodo's Bagels might give an NYC bagel a run for its money. Bodo's has a few locations so make sure you get a BEC before you leave!
Fun, small-plate environment on Main Street with one of my favorite salads on its menu. Some other options around Oakhart include: Public Fish & Oyster (seafood), Orzo Kitchen & Wine Bar (Italian/American), Continental Divide (tacos) and Smyrna (Mediterranean).
A swanky sushi restaurant with great drinks. Ten is on the Downtown Mall and there are too many spots to name on the Downtown Mall. You truly could not go wrong with food in Charlottesville!
