Samantha's POV: It all began in 2013, when we first crossed paths while serving in the Air National Guard. We were assigned to the same shop (Aerospace Ground Equipment) but despite working side by side, Joy never said a word to me. I would always greet him with a warm smile and a cheerful “hi,” but he would simply glance at me with a serious expression and walk away. For an entire year, our interactions were little more than quiet glances and silent moments. Then, in 2014, something magical happened. One day, I was chatting in Spanish with another coworker when, to my surprise, Joy finally spoke to me in front of our tool room. He asked, “How do you know how to speak Spanish?” I laughed and replied, “What do you mean? I’m half Dominican!” That small moment broke the silence—and changed everything. From that day on, we bonded over our shared Hispanic heritage, and a beautiful friendship began to bloom. We quickly grew close, becoming best friends who could talk for hours, even if we didn’t see each other every day. Through the years, we supported one another through all of life’s twists and turns—new homes, lost loves, changing careers, our friendship remained steady and true. By 2020, I had moved into a three-bedroom townhome in Mays Landing, NJ with my friend Chelsey. The house was just down the street from our base, where I worked full-time as the world was slowly reopening after the pandemic. Craving connection and laughter, I started hosting weekend wine nights with friends from all parts of my life. We called ourselves the “Toxic Wine Club"! We’d bring wine, cheese, and share stories late into the night. I never knew that all of that laughter and story-telling would spark Joy's interest in me. One of the nights, the crew was unable to get together. Joy ended up meeting me and my friend in a bar in Princeton, NJ. It was during that unforgettable evening on March 6, 2021 that Joy, revealed something that would change everything again. He looked at me and said, “I love you more than a friend… and I have for almost two years.” My heart skipped a beat. That confession was the beginning of our true love story. By July 3, 2021, we were officially a couple. Just a few months later, in September, we took a leap of faith and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to start a new chapter together. Finally, on April 4, 2025, Joy got down on one knee and asked me to be his forever in front of my late grandmother's home. From coworkers to strangers, from best friends to soulmates, our story is proof that sometimes, the best kind of love takes time to grow. And when it finally blooms, it’s nothing short of a fairy tale.
Joy's POV: Samantha and I met in 2013, we worked in the same shop in the military. At first I only knew her in passing and as a coworker. She has always been the happiest and most energetic in the room. In time I opened up to her and we connected culturally. It didn’t take long for us to become close friends and eventually through the years she became my best friend. Someone who I had absolute trust in and could share all of my triumphs and defeats with. In time I fell in love with her, but it was not the right time. Despite that I kept my feelings to myself and kept my best friend close. One day on a night out in 2021, the night was cold and the time is right. We went out to Princeton with some friends and Samantha wrapped her scarf around me to keep me warm. All of my feelings that I was suppressing made their way to the surface. That night I told her that I was in love with her, and she didn’t believe me! Isn’t that something? But with the country shut down we spent a lot of time with each other the rest of spring and summer until eventually the stars aligned and I asked her to be mine! Funny enough we made a friend pact that we would marry if we didn’t find someone by the time we turned 35. But we didn’t even make it to 30 before we got together. It’s been an amazing 5 years, moving to Charlotte together early in our relationship. Sharing several different homes together, and every year becoming closer and closer. Samantha has helped me grow tremendously and I couldn’t imagine a world where she wasn’t my wife. Please join us as we confirm our union under god and party hard after in our home state of New jersey!
